The good lady and I spent the weekend (well, half of it) washing & waxing our babies, the 944 & S2000.

If it wasn't dark by the time I'd finished, I'd add some pics!! To add insult to injury, it chucked it down last night, so no doubt they'll be filthy by the end of today, but I still felt better for it!!

I replaced my leaky power steering unit today with the help of the foot to the floor blog.

Decided to reseal my tail lights today - there was a small amount of water getting into the boot area and the passenger side tail light had been poorly resealed in the past, with it oozing out of the panel gap, which annoyed me!!
So out with the pass side one to reveal a fair amount of mess!

This took a bit of time to get it nice & clean, WD40 or something similar probably would have got it off a lot quicker, but I was mindful of keeping the body clean from contaminants so that the new seals would stick well. In hindsight, wiping over with IPA after WD40 probably would have been OK.

Anyway, nice & clean now :)

And the tailight cleaned up and sealant in place:

I used 8mm butyl sealant tape from Wayside Adhesives. Annoyingly, after the first go it leaked, hadn't quite got full contact in the top corner. Not sure if this was down to application or everything being a bit cold, so cleaned it all down again, heated the lamp & adhesive up, and this time along the top & bottom edge I let the tape overhang the edge a little to make a better seal right into the corner of the body aperture. Second time it was fine. Due to the overhang I had a little ooze out along the lower edge, I tried to tuck it back in, but in the end I used a scalpel to trim it back neatly.

Also realised I had leaky hatch latch seals. I removed them, cleaned & silicone greased, but they have swollen along the front edge - so I'll have to get a new pair.

Still getting water in the passenger rear footwell which is annoying. Last time I checked, I could only find a leak along top of hatch seal (need to replace this and headlining), but not 100% convinced that it is finding it's way along to the rear passenger floor without getting much else too wet. Time to get the carpet out again :(

Need to get all of the leaks sorted now, otherwise come the summer I will forget, only to be reminded next winter!!

Open the fuel filler flap and make sure the water drain tube is attached as water could leak into the rear foot-well from there. You will have to lift the off-side carpet in the boot (the flap over the rear well) and you can reach up from there. An easy check is to pour water in at the fuel flap end and see if it comes out behind the rear wheel.

leak in rear passenger foot well is likely to be from the sunroof drain hole flexi tubing , you will have to remove the rear inner roof panel to access and inspect. They go brittle and become loose and let water leak out and down inside of rear speaker cards and into the footwell.

Engine oil change.

Took the seats out to give them a good clean and waxoyl my sills. They looked in very good health inside the previous waxoyl didn't look too old. Also pushed the floor back down where some ape had tried the jack the car up using the floor. Discovered my HB warning light isnt working because of the lack of a switch. Touch the wire to earth and the P lit up so its jsut a case of making a bracket for the switch to fit on now.

What should it look like?

Unfortunately found a small hold, 10p size so cut and inch around it, welded in some fresh and shes ready for another years motoring!

Fitted new rear shocks to my 220 turbo after setting off to ascertain my coolant leak which has decided to stop leaking ? topped it up with water and everything now seems fine ??
Putting it down to sulking after winter lay up :)
I will be carrying water and keeping an eye on the temp for the first month or so of use, coolant soon to be changed when i am doing the belts.

My 944 hates me. It must be because I've been devoting time to the 924. Today I discovered a nasty engine vibration, so after work stripped the covers off to find that the lower balance shaft had slipped 4 teeth! Re-fitted, slightly more tension, just enough to not make the washing machine whine.

Fitted all my new linkages. Was going to fit up the brakes but the new braided hoses don't fit at the back. Now to wait for the next set.
