Going skiing on Friday but car still being fixed

Post by Paul Mabley »

Off skiing this weekend, looking forward to the drive also having got my winter wheelset on.

Trouble is, car has been away for nearly a month having a rattle in the dash sorted which turned out to be a new steering rack required!

Fingers crossed for a return tomorrow

The OPC it's with I wont specify until I get the car back but put it this way I'm extremely surprised by the lack of service from the Service Manager. Not a single phone call made to me over the car, only got info when I chased and extremely difficult to get hold of.

I was ready to have the car transported to a different dealer but when I went there and spoke to the tech I was happy that it was going to get sorted, in fairness he's very good.

Is there a name and shame policy here because these people are p155 takers and others need to know!

Every cloud has a Silver lining and Stone the crows are both phrases I've used to day! The OPC has had the car 3 weeks following the bodyshop having it for a few days to check over their work which was all OK.

Car went into bodyshop 12 December, they kindly took it to OPC on 17th. Despite being told what was wrong with it by both the bodyshop and myself (and it being obvious upon turning the key) I was told on the 19th that I'd have to visit to show them. In addition, they had to check to make sure this wasn't a 'characteristic' of the £70-120k car Porsche had produced. Unfortunately I could only get there on the 23rd. The technician asked me to drive the car to demonstrate, we started it and it was immediately obvious to him, only drove it just out of the dealership before returning for him to investigate further.

Today (as per a lot of other days) I rang three times leaving messages, the last of which I was on hold for 20 mins, no-one returns calls. Finally I get a call back at 4pm but still being fobbed off even though I'm dealing with the service manager now, he was delighted to tell me they have racked up 14 hours on the car with two operatives including working on it all day today changing the steering rack! The rack change made no difference incidentally!

This period from the 23rd when I last visited includes 10 workshop days, on top of the 5 working days prior they were pontificating over it.

Anyway, they were explained to about my holiday on Friday on the 23rd when I visited but today there is no prospect of receiving the car back in time because they don't know what's wrong with it and it's in many pieces now!

No loan car has been offered and they denied to supply me one today saying that they have a 3 week advance booking on them. Should the warranty have provided me with one?

What the hell do I do now?

Tony I'm sure they'll do a decent job in the end I have faith in the tech actually doing the work but it's the process that's got me angered. It is down to individuals in the department's communication and organisational skills rather than something technically wrong and their management haven't been managing!

You may get a better response, if not just a loan car, by actually walking in unannounced to the OPC and speaking to somebody face to face, including seeing what is actually happening to your car.

I find this method of 'just walking in' gets better results than telephone calls.

Good luck with it.

Sorry to read that you are having problems. I would have insisted on a loaner as it's under warranty, it always speeds things up.

If I can help in anyway please ping me a note.

You need to find someone with proper tv quality camera and take the film crew in with you.

How about your contacts at Inchcape ?

Emailed DP yesterday evening and had a response that he's looking into things, I'll await his opinion and go from there.

Had a bit of a result.

Robin got involved and the situation is now resolved to my satisfaction and I've received a fair apology.

Kevin the technician managed to find the problem in the end, the nearside front shock spacer had somehow become dislodged. This has now been rectified and the car is perfect again they say.

The car is being delivered back to me on Thursday (they offered for me to collect today) which I'm happy with.

As said above, wasn't in doubt that the car would be rectified appropriately my bone of contention being the lack of communication and support in terms of alternative transport.

All's well that ends well and thanks for all the input above.
