Re fitted the rear wiper after first re wiring the connector block to the switch.
Got the drivers side electric mirror re wired and working.
Moved the electric window switches back from the centre consul to the correct position on the door.
Central locking now working.
Just got to put the door card back on then start the passenger side.
Next on the list engine mounts, exhaust vibration.
Then some bodywork and hopefully a rolling road set up ready for the spring!

Stripped down the passenger door, cleaned out 25 years of crud and some broken glass (don't know when that happened..), took out the window regulator and motor, stripped them down, cleaned and lubricated to free up. Silicone lubricant on the rubber guides, re-greased all moving parts such as motor gearbox, main cog, etc. Fitted some more sound-proofing to the door panel, then re-fitted the regulator. Tested...oh, so much better, it is not straining now and the glass moves much quicker...result :D .

Cut a new plastic membrane and fitted behind door card, then buttoned it all up. One down, one to go..

Gave it a quick clean too.

Had a long chilly day in the garage but managed to change cam belt, balance belt, tensioners, and water pump.
Learned a lot and a good job done, but knackered now!
Check tension in a 1000 miles....next I guess....:-)

Great work Rhett.
I'm planning to strip down both my doors and attempt what you've described here - when the nice weather comes.
The only extra thing I was planning to do was to add some cavity wax to the insides of the doors.

What sound-proofing material did you use and how did you stick it to the door?
What material did you use for the 'new plastic membrane'?
If you get the other door done soon maybe you could take some photos of the process to make it easier for Dullards like me?
Thanks

Hi,

I got some self-adhesive bitumen-based soundproofing that comes with an aluminium backing from eBay. It comes in various sizes. I went for a 200mm wide roll x 10m it cost about £30.00. There are a lot of more expensive ones available such as Rattlemat and Dynamat (or something like that..?), but they all appear to be quite similar. My car is not too noisy anyway, but I thought I would add this whilst I had the door open as 'every little helps', or so they say... :D.

To apply, you simply cut a piece to fit (I cut several smaller pieces as they were easier to handle and place in the frame), remove the backing film and press onto the surface. Then use a small wallpaper roller and perhaps a heat gun to make sure it adheres fully.

The new membrane was cut out of builders plastic sheeting, it's generally quite tough. But, I realised you could use the plastic from a heavy-duty rubble sack or bag available from any DIY merchant too as they are pretty strong as well.

I will take photos of the next door too, including taking the regulator out, etc. weather permitting!

Thanks.
I assume you stuck the soundproofing to the actual door skin rather than across the inner frame which the door card and plastic membrane screw into?
Nice to know your method of plastic membrane renewal will be cheap to replicate!
I look forward to seeing a 'How To' with Pics soon.

A good effort! I've never seen it, but Porsche originally had an advert that proved how many crates of German beer it was possible to fit in a 944.

Yesterday, I nearly fully assembled the 924 for the first time since buying it, but I was literally 1 hose clip short of a full engine! Oh and the old battery is so flat it won't even take a charge. I think I have a working car, but my excitement will just have to wait!
