I saw it a few years ago too..

I think its fair to say one of JC best ever bits of TV..
Something that made him come across as very real and with a passion not just for cars..

Never mind Clarkson, what about the sheer bravery those men showed in the face of almost certain death? Incredible stuff, and just shows how the war was won.

Yes, they were fighting a control freak German Empire.

In fact I presented an opinion on PCGB forum that

"As I see it, Porsche has moved away from building cars for its own sake, to building cars as a means to Empire".

The opinion was censored and deleted following German control freak influence.

It's a shame that your namesake on Pistonheads suggested a thread critical of such influence was a candidate for deletion.

Perhaps Clarkson might do a programme on collaborators one day.

As for Brett, he was a very brave soldier in his day.

I can understand his dismissiveness of Tipec - I had a Tipec thread removed that was just asking for a meaningful discussion with PCGB about the German problem.

Perhaps I'll start a thread on Pistonheads - 'Tipec forum, alternative area'.

:D

I suspect you and I would actually get on well over a pint (I'm a premature grumpy old man;)), but there is a time and a place..

I agree to an extent about Porsche being a very different business nowadays. However, I also recognise that without the aggressive sales of the boxster/cayenne for example, they simply would not survive in todays cutthroat marketplace. On the flipside I think people have come to expect a lot more for their money and that has led to some healthy competion and ultimately a better deal for the consumer. Basically, it's the way of the world now. That's not to say I like it; there are many ways in which things have changed for the worse these days, but what can you do?

As for PCGB/TIPEC, if you post on a moderated public forum run by and paid for by others - PCGB especially so as it is not INDEPENDENT, then you cannot control the level of that moderation/censorship, and it is therefore not worth the stress getting yourself wound up about it. My suggestion to yourself/Brett was to drop it as it was really not doing him/you any favours. Put some positive energy into improving things that you CAN, and stop agonising over the things you CAN'T.

Regards,
Adam

I have no issue with it here, the reason that Bretts post got removed was he was shotgunning every forum I'm on & everyone got fed up with him regurgitating the same thing.

The problem all manufacturers suffer from is that one minute you're up & the next you are down. e.g. Porsche were deperately close before the 924 came out & could have either gone to the wall or been taken over. Jaguar ditto, many times & now look what Ford are going through. When I was a lad 60-70% of cars appeared to be Fords only the very brave, foolhardy or rich bought anything else. Now they're struggling with massive debt, diminishing car sales etc. etc.
Not sure I like the inflection of the fact it's Porsche, German etc. in this context, it could be any manufacturer from any country. Some used to say the same thing of the Japanese as regards the motorcycle industry.

Not true. I am unaware of any post EVER being censored and deleted as a result of influence from Porsche.
The Moderators and Admins just use common sense and decency as thier guidelines (and of course the Forum Rules to which everyone has agreed).
Of course that doesn't stop people who post rubbish complaining of some conspiracy theory when they get a post removed...

Yours - a PCGB Admin...
