Wohoa! And I am having second thoughts about cutting just the spare wheel well out of my Turbo. You should have no trouble dropping the cage through the floor there!

lol, i intend to complete this project! tbh i know i have changed my mind about my 944 projects a few times in the past, but i have also completed 3 or 4 other projects at the same time which were the priority at the time. just not enough hours in the day to do them all, and the 944t was lowest on the list of priorities at the time and so had to be abandoned.

now my other projects are complete, and my evo track car has been sold. i have much more time (and money) to throw at this car, and i have always wanted to build a mad 924/944 so this is my chance!

Would you consider (are you allowed) to change to a twin A-Arm rear suspension setup now that you've cut the whole rear out? There are a couple of cars in Sweden that have done this and the parts themselves are relatively cheap. I was talking to one of the guys that have done it on theirs. Very neat installation but you would only consider it when you were going to the level of cutting/fabbing that you're doing.

Quote from my friend with it in his. You wouldn't have to do everything on that list but the time is right:

"The 996 and 997 rear suspension is more or less identical and the geometry is the same for all versions. Just different installed heights but as the mounting points has to be customized on the car anyway to fit it to a 944 you can get away with a regular C2 setup. Then you just get the Cup rods or aftermarket uniball adjustable ones. And put in a blade sway bar when you're at it and re-work the dampers. Have to fix suitable drive shafts too. It adds up!

The rear suspension is re-worked for the 991 with a 5th suspension link but not sure the reason behind the re-design. Might very well be that the new cars are getting big and heavy (heck the 991 uses 20" wheels!) so we're better off looking at the last iterations of the 996/997."

Im not to keen on using the 911 rear supension. Although it will work better I want to try keep the car based on 924 running gear. If anything is changed it will be the engine but again I would prefer to keep it original.

Made some progress on front end fabrication work. Have made removable tubular front end and 951 intercooler is mounted in place. Next job is to hang the 951 ally rad in place. Whole front end is removable in 5 mins for ease of working on the car and makes engine install and remove very easy.

oh also cut out the rear arches for maximum clearance on huge wheels! just need to make a closing plate out to the rear 1/4 now and fit the rear arches.

going to need some big wheels for this!

Every update is a surprise! :o)

Id keep the original engine though Nick. If you swap that it stops being a '924 Turbo' and I think that this will affect its desirability.

If youre changing everything then you couldve started with a sorry-looking 924 for a fraction of the price, too.

i agree i would prefer to keep it based on 924 turbo, and keep the engine. although i do want to put it onto modern fuel injection engine management.

looking forward to getting the rest of the panels and making a start on the cage and rear end fab work.

want to try get this back together this year!!
