Nick no point in re inventing the wheel on an engine swap...
Why keep it porsche it will cost a fortune and then some to get what an. Ls engine can give you for a fraction of the price...Craig's engine swaps are fantastic and even 500 hp in a 944 would be more than enough...
A Porsche 928/944 transaxle will never take 1000 hp...
Why don't you just build a v8 as you have the skill set,and you'll wish you had yrs ago...even my rover gt rep is fairly nippy... If I ever get bored I'll sell the UVA rover swap, and fit a 20 v aan turbo audi motor....:):):):)...

I don't necessarily have my heart set on a v8, in fact I have never been a huge fan of v8's but I know they can be made very powerful very cheaply (in comparison to other engines) I am a massive fan of turbocharged engines though, so a turbo v8 would be more my kind of thing.

i have a 944 turbo cylinder head on the shelf, and i can get a bottom end no issues. so i could just go for a big power 944t engine.

the only thing that worries me slightly is the liner type engine that the 944t runs, and the s2 16v engine, i know at high power levels the liners can be a weak point, and heat issues due to expansion differences in block/liners, aswell as the reduced block stiffness compared to a steel block etc. i know of a few people who have had a steel liner block built by reputable tuner, and still lunched the engine even at 350 odd hp!!

i want more like 500+bhp so im not sure the liner type engines are reliable at this level? if im wrong please correct me jmg etc.

as i have a 924t and have been reading the 924t tuning thread that Carrera rsr and jmg have been commenting on a lot, i started to think a 924t built engine, with the cis removed, big turbo and management etc could be a good choice and stronger/more reliable at 450-500bhp ? plus keeps it Porsche, and could be a 924 gtr style rep?

a 20v turbo audi engine would be pretty awesome, i have a fiat coupe 20v turbo that i have been running about in, and its an awesome engine and makes a lovely noise. maybe more tuning potential aswell? seen that engine with over 1000bhp in many cases and i would only be aiming for 500 ish.

comments on engine choices above?? maybe jmg can comment!

many thanks

or how about the newer s4 engine? 2.7 v6 twin turbo! this is an awesome engine, and complete cars can be picked up for not a lot of money. the engine is massively tuneable and lots of parts available off the shelf.

500bhp is a breeze with this engine for not a great deal of money. was run in the rs4 at 380bhp std, even a basic remap will see 440bhp with exhaust etc.

makes a lovely noise aswell

I agree the 20v turbo engine is an awesome engine! only problem is they are quite rare these days. also who I would I speak to re building/tuning one of these 20vt engines in the uk?

can all parts be sourced for rebuild still etc?

its certainly a more suited engine, and easy enough to install!!

Pretty sure that Practial Performance Car did an article about the Audi 5Cyl including tuning options and specialists. Will have a rummage and see if i've still got it.

just sent an email to a specialist that has been recommended to me, dialynx is the company, and they seem to be the big boys in the uk when it comes to these engines

the audi sport Quattro is pretty much one of my favourite cars in the world and runs this engine, its just the noise alone!!

waiting to hear back from dialynx and see what sort of money these engines cost to buy and build to take decent power.

Dynalynx will be gold bars...probably cheaper to ask audi themselves...lol...
If you do a 20 v I'd be interested in doing one to keep costs down etc etc...

I thought they might be, cheers for the other contact.

what about an audi rs6 twin turbo v8 engine? 450bhp out the box, 550/600 with ease on remap/exhaust etc. all autos though so would need some engineering to mate up to torque tube? and how about getting it running?

just another idea, can pick up an rs6 engine for 3k

Being perfectly honest the 944 is a cheap car with a fantastic chassis, so a Lexus V8 or a turbo nutter engine would be fine in a chassis that can cope.
Most cars need complete redoing to accept more power the 944 already has it.
Sorry but I am too old for another project so its down to you young fella's.

Hi, If you do decide to go down the 5 cylinder Audi route, I hope you end up with a better power and torque curve than the one in the video. Nothing until 4500 and all over by 6500, not good.

Cheers Tim
