Another question. There is a full set of coolant hoses in black on EBAY for £180ish. My hoses seem to be original 1983 stock so it would be wise to replace before they fail.

Has anyone fitted a set and are they worth the expenditure?

Thanks

Jon

I don't no anyone who has, but there's plenty off hose under the bonnet that aren't coolent. Get a price from Opc for ones you need. Silicone is differnt finish, so if you want make everything macth MIT not be so nice. If your oringal ones gave lasted this long chances are your a change now will out live the car. Silicone don't like oil so iv been told

Hoses still from the OPC! I hadn't considered that, thanks Terry.

I recently looked into replacing hoses too. The original hoses tend to last 15-20 years so not sure you need silicone hoses. Buying hoses from OPC will probably see those outlast your ownership without any issues.

I think many modified turbos are also running with standard hoses without any problems so am unsure there is a real benefit of having silicone hoses. Each to their own though.

Having had an old stock hose burst on me on the motorway I'd recommend in replacements if you don't know the actual age. Annoyingly it was the only hose on my rebuilt engine which wasn't replaced because it was NLA.

As for OPC, this should be in some cases a first point of call at least for a price. Without Porsche seeing some demand on parts more and more will go NLA. Most motor factors do not sell basic rubber hoses anymore as I found out recently with my engine rebuild. So now I am using silicone. In most cases silicone will take larger pressures than rubber. The walls are softer so you can feel water pressures within.

Steve that was my worry that the NOS out there could be over 20 years old. I had a hose go on one of my 928's and don't want to risk that happening again.

...and now I have a small leak from the radiator so i may as well change everything for new

That looks good Steve....I'm going to let my local radiator specialist take a quick look first - I think I may have stressed the top hose inlet when I was last fiddling about under there. If I can get a localised repair then great ...otherwise the wallet busting continues!

Regards

Jon

Managed to pick up a good used (and guaranteed) replacement from Fleabay...one less worry and a few pennies saved to spend on more serious bits.

Thanks for your input guys

Jon
