Hi,

Fairly new on here but have been lurking about for a while. Am on the look out for a 944 and was just wondering if anyone had used Autograph Specialist Cars in Wakefield before or had any views on them?

Cheers,
Peter

That's not them of the "interesting" paint jobs and box sill covers is it?
If so you've got to love a trier but maybe not buy anything!

Hi Peter,

I see a lot of threads like this on many forums (fora?) that I visit. 99 times out of 100 a new user asking specifically about a trader rather than a specific car is actually that trader.

Hopefully you're the 1in 100.

Hi Benjj,

Definitely not the trader or in anyway connected to them. Just trying to work out if one of the cars they are currently advertising is worth travelling 5 hours to go and see:-

http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C251490

Apart from the "interesting" paint job it seems to have had loads of mechanical work carried out which appeals as it should hopefully mean there is less to go wrong in the future but am purely enquiring as I know nothing about the company or their repuation as they are not local to me (read mixed reviews on the internet).

Hopefully I am the 1 in 100 :)

If this is to be your 1st 944 buy a car that's known on here then buy a can buy of orange spray paint and some stickers.

There's a stack of cars with good history that have been hanging around the trade for years, these cars don't like not being used and you'll be spending as soon as you start driving one that's been sat about.

Sit and wait for a car that's known on here, you can check back through the forum to see what work and problems the car has, it's still a bit of a gamble but a lot less of one you'll spend less in the 1st year on a car that's being used regular than one that's not been used for a year or so.

To be fair that's not over priced if it's not done galactic mileage and doubtless would have sold ages ago if it wasn't for the colour scheme but that's their market.

Thanks for the advice Matey, was defintely something I was hoping to do.

The paint job is not really to my taste either but I am ideally looking for a late model s2 but was also conscious that this has been for sale for quite a while hence why I was asking the question in the first place.

That is probably a nice car underneath all the tat, it would cost a few hundred putting it back to standard so it was not a "special" any longer

Someone has clearly spent a lot of time and money creating that ahem 'unique' machine. Amazing!

The dice tyre valve covers really set it off.

Ouch.

Such a shame.

It's a challenge I'll say that for it.

I'd say only superficial changes but it's got matching brake calipers and cam cover!!! Makes you wonder what else is waiting to surprise you.

I probably wouldn't buy one of their colorful cars, but maybe I should consider taking my s2 there for a service as they only charge 40 pounds an hour and their website says they have a second to non reputation. What do you think?
