Hi there,

I'm trying to work out what my fuchs wheels are in terms of offset.

They are definitely staggered with 8 inch on the rear and 7 inch on the fronts. The rears are much deeper than the fronts. The car is pre ABS. They are 15 inch.

I know 23ET is the usual offset for pre ABS cars but my rear wheels are too deep for this to be correct. Could they be ET 11? My 7 inch fronts look like 23ET.

The table on the page below shows some 15 inch fuchs that were 11ET.

http://www.944racing.de/wheelweights.php

Part of me wants to change to 16 inch fuchs wheels but the other part of me is liking the extreme deep dish on the rears and wants to go for a rat car look with big white lettered old skool race tyres. Something a bit different. Possibly getting my decades mixed up here trying for a 70's 1985.5 944!!

Are 11ET Fuchs likely? Anyone know if they were a factory option? There's nothing on my options list for it. The car does have a factory fitted 40% LSD, no sunroof, and has a centre console cassette box delete so may have been a sportier spec. It was delivered to Hong Kong direct from the factory and then came to blighty.

Best to use the part numbers to ascertain the dimensions of the wheels that you have.

I doubt that theyre original. Fuchs wheels used to be worth £200 a set and they were commonly bought and sold. I have sold a set of 16"s for £200 in the past!

7J X 15 ET 23.3, 8J X 15 ET 10.6 if I'm reading PET correctly.

Depends on year and market, I believe.

I can see them on PET now.

I will at some point check the numbers on the wheel but this sounds correct. At least I know that they are mean to be on there.

Thanks

Looks from PET that there was no 16 inch in the deeper dish. They have a 911 product number so maybe that's a reason.

So I can't get 16 inch Fuchs and keep the deep dish effect. At least it stops me looking for some.

Which fuch's are we talking about here, the 911 type petal or the cookie cutters, if its the 911 type you'll be lucky to get a set for under £1500, the cookie cutters have suddenly picked in value also, no longer £200 a set

There seems to be some confusion here: 'Fuchs' isn't a generic term. 'Fuchs' wheels are forged and they are made by Fuchs. 'Cookie Cutters' are cast and they are made by ATS.

Cookie Cutters were made in 5.5", 6" & 7" widths and only in 15" dia. Fuchs were available in 14", 15" & 16" diameters and widths from 6" up to 11" (and beyond, and narrower in 14").

Don't the 16x8's have a deeper dish? That size and above are insane £'s

My car came new with my Fuchs as I have the original paper work stating Fuchs I'm so glad the car still has them and amazed as prior to me owning the car it had been parked up for over a year in a South London industrial estate where the radio and other stuff was stolen.

How it never ended up on bricks still baffles me.

I don't know what size they are other than 15inch, big tyres but they handle the pot holes around the country lanes near me really well.

Red Baron - standard 15" 944 Fuchs were 7J front and rear... or if 16" they would be 7J front and 8J rear.

Now what I want to know is whether the set I just picked up, a 16" set with 6J fronts and 7J rears (I think these were 911 sizes) are going to:

A) Look good
B) Present me with any offset issues
C) Require what size tyres to give me the right look on an '84 944

All advice gratefully received :)

The standard fitting for a 944 was 15 inch x 7 inch 23ET cookie cutters. Fuchs wheels were an option and there are various types listed in the parts catalogue including 16 x 8 23ET and 15 x 8 10.6 ET..

There's no 6 inch wheels listed so they would be smaller than standard fitting. Would there not be a risk of under steer if you where tracking it. I'm no expert but less rubber on the front end I would have thought meant less grip.
