My 924t seems to have suddenly decided it wants the wipers on all the time. As soon as thr ignition is switched on they are on constant. U can move the stalk up 2 times and thr speed doesnt change. Only on the top setting they speed up.

If u disconnect thr plug on thr back of the stalk they stop.

Any ideas
thanks
nick

It sounds like the short can only be happening in the stalk switches. If there was a short in the loom or at the motor, pulling the plug off wouldn't stop it.

You can still get brand new stalks from Porsche, but they are about £70 a side.

Pull the stalks and clean up connections with contact cleaner/emery. 99% certain this will fix it, mine need doing again.

Theyre Golf switches. There are two separate types: the earlier flat metal types with four fixing screws or the later chunky plastic type with three fixing screws, shared with 944s (as well as Golf, Scirocco, AUDIs etc).

Might also be a faulty intermittent wipe relay. Try:

the stalks cant be replaced easily, the steering column has a weld on spline for the snap off steering wheel which means they wont come off as they wont fit over the spline.

so it needs to be replaced in situ. I pulled it apart, and cleaned it up, only for a small metal strip which the indicator stalk runs on to fall out. this was an absolute nightmare to put back together lol.

it is the 3 screw type.
I will have to try and clean the contacts up in situ. will also check the relay.

bit of a nightmare, I would usually just swap it over as I have other stalks in stock, but the steering boss spline stops that!

unless I can remove the stalks individually? haven't tried that yet. will check relay, and see if I can get to contacts or remove wiper stalk on its own.

its only just started doing it. a few times when I moved the car about it would do it, but muck about with the stalk and it would stop, now its on constantly so I assume its likely the switch which is annoying as it looks the most difficult to change if the stalk wont come off individually due to the steering wheel spline being welded on the end of the column.

will take a look tomorrow

thanks

all sorted.

thankfully nothing wrong with the stalk as that was going to be a pain to sort

replaced the relay with one I had on the shelf and sorted! nice easy fix.

cheers
