Just been chatting to a mate who had an MOT this week on his 924, everything fine, except a failure on his dashboard lighting! He was told new regs, dash illumination has to meet certain criteria? he has been told to go away and improve his dash lighting! I suggested he goes to his local Porsche Centre for his MOT, they are unlikely to fail one of their own vehicles. What are the implications for most of us on here, who run, shall we say, more mature cars

I thought the new regs only applied to new cars? i would have questioned the fail and pointed out that many classic cars and vintage vehicles have little or no dash lighting.
Would he have failed a historic car worth millions that was built with dire lighting from new?

Don't know, but MOT will apply to all cars over 3 years old, I would have thought

Yes cars over 3 have MOT's but different standards for different ages my 944's both passed there mot's with out catalitic converters, not needed by law untill 1992. old classics pass without seat belts and indicators.

The dash lighting is, warning lights such as Blue High beam must be working and if gauges were back lit from the factory they must be now. But thats about all on a 924. Think the handbrake warning light as well
