Many thanks Dave, that's kind of you.

Yes a decent chap called Tom took the trip up from Bristol to take a look - he went for a spin too and seems to like it. I have another interested party too although they can't view it for about a week so there's some refreshed interest for sure.

Well good luck with the sale then. Hopefully you'll get a bidding war on for it.

The tint top is handy on those sunny days :).

I have been trying to sort out the small issues on my car but now and again you have to treat yourself, and have a gentle reminder as to why you like your car.

Besides cleaning it and nourishing various leather bits inside a bit of a find turned up this weekend. A vaguely tidy ClubSport steering wheel at a price I could afford and in the correct blue colour for my interior.

I say the above since I wanted a CS steering wheel so badly for my S2 that I ached. With this car however, the Lozenge stock steering wheel seemed to exacerbate its '80s styling, especially with the white door handles and flag mirrors (we shall forget about the 17" Cup 1s....).

And so I ended up with it. Upon fitting it (after feeding it with some leather cleaner and feed) it left me even more confused. It looks OK IMO, but it felt chunky, almost too chunky. That story changed on the road. I have no idea why but the steering feels a little lighter (maybe the old one was too thin, God knows!), and it has just aided the experience a little.

To aid my confusion (and with the possibility of the CS steering wheel coming up for sale) have yourself a shot or two of the interior to make your own minds up.

Keep the CS wheel! I was never a fan of the CS wheel as I thought it was too chunky and then a decent burgundy one came up at a good price so I took it and fitted it and for me it transformed the car. The original was too thin all along and the CS one not only looks the nuts but felt so right the first time I drove with it. Just keep your old wheel as you won't lose money on the CS wheel as time goes by and can sell at any time.

Cheers

Stuart

Hi Chas,

CS wheel all the way. Just make sure you keep the standard one safe as it is probably worth more to you in terms of keeping it in case you want to ever sell the car.

I personally think the std turbo s/wheel is to spindly. It borders a cadillac steering wheel... I'm on the hunt for a dished sparco/OMP in alacantara with a squared bottom.

Having given my car a good run up to Gaydon and round the track, it's now getting some TLC.
Planned wash, polish and maintenance over the winter.

Maybe I'm the odd one out but about to take a momo wheel off mine to fit the standard lozenge.

Finally fitted my new S2 intake, throttle body and numerous hoses.

Started the delayed service that I was supposed to undertake a couple of weeks ago! Oil and filter, plugs, air filter, coolant check and all the basic stuff completed on the front end.

Stripped off the Top cam belt cover ready to change the belts and rollers only to discover the cam belt idler in my kit was more than twice the size of the one on the car...annoying as I had supplied chassis/engine numbers when ordering the kit.

Also after removing the engine undertray to check and clean the underside, I found the source of an intermittent vibration I've been chasing down. The alternator belt stay had sheared at the alternator end...another part to order off EBAY!

Just ordered a couple of Conti sports for the back end as these had always performed well on my 928's. The Khumo's fitted a few years back lasted a decent 30000 miles, doubt the Conti's will.

Finally I gave the sills a good dose of Waxoyl (about a litre each side) I never intended to add so much but by the time I'd got the extension lance working correctly I'd used half the tin up on one side, so I thought I'd better balance by putting the remainder in the opposite side....at least they and the B posts are well covered for the winter months.

Finally swapped over my non script passenger door handle for a shiny new scripted one to match the drivers side. Oddly my car came with one script handle and one non script! What an absolute twat of a job, 3 hours, much swearing, crying and scraped hands and it was done! Never again though, porsche couldn't have hid the gubbings better if they tried and reconnecting the ball joint for the door latch simply is not funny. Was almost removing the door glass at one point to get the metal window runner out the way but eventually managed by unbolting the bottom and bending it out the way. Anybody else had the misfortune of doing this? Is there an easier way??

The scars are still healing from the last time I took the door handle off mine. I did the same and removed the guide rail to get it back together. Although I must have done well because I think it only took me about 2 hours to scrape all the skin off the back of my hand and get it all back together!

There is a knack with these handles and it gets easier with practice. Mine have been on and off three times in the last couple of years. One thing is guaranteed I the scrapes and scratches no matter how quick they go in.

Is there any other way to adjust the throw on the lever other than the little windy ball connector on the rod? I can't face disassembling it again to wind it out a bit more and the lever is almost touching the handle before it pops open. Opens ok but just annoys me a bit. The other side unlatches with a bit less travel which I think is about right.

Cheers

Stuart

You have to bend the drop-link so that it becomes slightly longer and straighter. Guess what you have to take off (again) ?

My car has a porsche script handle on the passenger side and a non script handle on the drivers side too. Weird. I won't look forward to the handle swap then!
