Lots done in preparation for Gaydon. New head gasket and ally rad this week and now all running as it should be. Re black dyed my suede steering wheel and gearshift. Also threw some dye on the black carpets. Full interior vacuum and wipe down. Inside glass done. Fuchs removed, cleaned inside and out and then off to tyre shop for some fresher A048's. Will be polished and sealed tomorrow and refitted

Tomorrow, full body wash, clay, polish, seal and wax. Detail the engine bay. Then its in the garage ready for the 8th :D

Had the belts changed and new front seals done so now hopefully have a none-leaking engine and the knowledge that new belts are brand new :D

My sunroof now closes too which is a bonus!

I decided to give mine a bit of a clean inside yesterday after a kind owner helped me out with a gearknob and a set of mats ;). After going to the efforts of giving the mats a wet vacuum with great results, it seemed silly to not continue the same theme within the interior. And so I then gave the seats a bit of cleaning with the usual leather cleaner!

Anyway, here are the results. Suffice to say it is a nicer place to be:

The jury is out on the silver top on the gearknob but time shall tell if it does grow on me :).

The next jobs to tend to are to replace the missing screws which some of you may see (I lost a couple when I was forced to drive the car without doorcards (the car had snapped both solenoid operating rods making getting into and out of the car fun with regards to the immobiliser/alarm) in addition to repairing the driver's seat bolster (that however will be a winter job for my long suffering trimmer).

Oh, and maybe I shall look into getting the clock display working via one of Oli's guides or with one of the eBay repair kits.

Last night I accidentally "fixed" by rear wiper but simply turning it on!

It was dark, I was trying to open the sunroof, I hit the wrong button, et voila!

Bizarre  It's never worked before so I don't know why it started last night

Looks tidy Chas! 8)

If you don't get used to the gearknob then paint the silver insert matt black. With a then subtle Porsche emblem lurking in it, it could look quite tidy ;)

Yesterday, I:

- bled the brakes with new fluid, which has made no difference to the long and soft pedal travel. Ideas?

- changed the fuel filter. Old one stated Made in W. Germany, with a date of 1995! Well overdue.

cleaned car outside and smothered in Dodo juice. Found some blemishes from the respray so will mean a trip back to the paintshop after gaydon...

Also cleaned my rear spoiler and wiped over with peanut butter! Came up black as oppose to the previous greying black!

Now that is a great idea Andy :). That really would improve the looks significantly IMO.

well I've had quite a few weeks with mine, I put 1000miles on the ole girl during my holiday. But problems have arisen, not least the track rod and cv saga. Lesson learnt that for Porsches at least after market parts are not an option. Shame really as I do get hold of some good after market bits for my VW's

Ive been busy deep cleaning my way round the inside, upholstery, leather, plastics, perspex on the gauges. The outside has had some treatment too, I bought some glass polish to really cut through the grime and take out the blemishes. Seems to have worked quite well my wipers are much more effective and it only cost about £7!

I need to get my hands on a a few fuel pump bobins and a new oil pressure sender as one of the terminals on mine has become loose, they are silly money! Does anyone know why? or do they fit anything else? I know of similar parts but they have a different thread size.

Im sure ive been doing other little jobs but ive forgotten

I managed to track these down for the 924, where they are used for the airbox, pipes and all sorts:

Last night I changed by transaxle oil for some posh stuff, then I did the engine oil for the first time.

I read the clark's guide on engine oil to make sure I didn't miss somethig silly:

- remove sump tray
- remove sump plug
- remove filler cap
- remove filter
- wipe-up small spillages (hardly any)
- inspect the oil in the bowl (looked dirty but otherwise correct - was 3500 miles old, so I'd expect that)

- reinsert sump plug
- fit new filter
- fill oil (5litres to start)
- turnover and run for 2-3mins
- refill the last 500mils
- leave the second under tray in a cupboard (!)

...wow, that as the cleanest and easiest oil change I've ever done on any car ever!

I went for a spin around the bottom of the ring road and was happy to see 5 bar on the oil pressure. However after about 5 minutes the pressure dropped right down to 1 bar and I got the red light of doom. I can't lie, I nearly *hit myself! I mean, how hard is it to change some engine oil?!

Fortunately I had a second bottle of teh same oil with me so i checked the dip stick in the glow of the working under-bonnet lamp. it looked within the dipstick markers but I chucked in 500mls to be sure. It stayed low unless used the throttle to up the revs a bit. above 1500 rpm it looked about 2bar so I decided to limp home...

About half a mile later the oil pressure went back up to 4.5 bar and then stayed there. i decided to go out for a 30minute spin to make sure and after that it was fine.

Question: What could have caused this?
Is there a separate set of oil ways that open up (like a coolant thermostat), when the oil gets to a certain temperature?
Is there a thermostatically controlled oil cooler circuit? If yes, i'm surprised it emptied since I only ran the engine for 2-3mins before draining too (yeah, I know it's best to drain warm oil to get more out).

I ran the engine and topped up after the initial fill, to ensure the filter got filled with oil. Presumably 2-3mins running on the axle stands wasn't enough.

Bemused! :drunken:

There is an oil pressure relief valve on the oil pump and its quite a complicated valve sleeve assembly. I had the same after my engine rebuild and it came down to a tiny foreign object stuck in the seat of the primary relief valve ( there is a small relief valve in the centre if the big one I think 2 stage) you may have dislodged something in your oil change or something could have got into the filter housing when you changed the filter and worked its way down this would only be something like a small iron filing so if its ok now then I wouldn't worry it's gone through and been picked up by the oil filter or sump plug magnet.

And apologies for grammar as posted from phone

Any way I wouldn't worry now mine went fine soon after too if it does it again you could try the connections on the pressure switch
