Hi All,

I have noticed corrosion on the mount which connects to the top of the rear strut/suspension (not part of the suspension). I am not sure what this mount is connected to, is it welded to the body or part of a bigger support (transmittion carrier?) what is the name of this mount? I have looked through the parts catalogue pdf but cant find what I am looking for. Does anyone know if this part can be replaced easily? Access to the area for welding looks tight to me. MOT is booked for Monday so I am getting a bit jittery!

Anyway, as most of our cars are 25+ years old, this got me thinking about things that could spell death of our cars :( :( Stuff that would be too costly or just impossible to repair adequatly. Do we have a list of the main things that are not worth the effort to repair? Or is everything repairable if cost is not an issue? What do you guys think?

Cheers
Rich

this picture shows it clearly it is welded to the main channel, I would guess easily repairable with fuel tank removed
much of the load is carried by the tube that runs through the channel....hope this helps

Do you have photos of everywhere!? Very handy

I think a lot comes down to determination and ingenuity. So many bits are still available and there are also welders and such who are very capable. It may not be 'factory' and the PCGB may not approve but the car would still live on! Maybe it comes down to the person and how much they want it to carry on, and how much they can afford? If you bought one thinking it was a cheap performance car maybe you would just weigh it in for having dead suspension or a blown turbo?

Frankly I am amazed how determined these cars are to carry on - mine needs work frankly but is managing 50 miles a day or more, gets blasted around the country seeing people, carrys bikes, has helped us move house three times. It even got me to work and back consistently in the snow :) I know big works looms once we finally by this bloody house!!

Thanks guys,

Great photo showing the mount in question in the middle. If the corrosion is too bad, does anyone know if anyone sells this or will a special part need to be fabricated?

Cheers Rich
