Oh crap that's not good. How did that happen?

Id never checked them since i owned the car. Having done some reading I found that is not uncommon for them to vibrate the bolts loose?

Anyway the upshot was luckily id called into see a mate on the way home just outside lincoln. I reversed off of his driveway. Put it in 1st and as I pulled away the 1 bolt that was left in sheared off.

Luckily the other 5 were still present, being held in by the axel boot. So we refitted the shaft with the 5 bolts left and I limped it home. Now awaiting a strip and clean. Fresh grease and a new set of bolts!

Hows the sale of you turbo going?

Blimey - never heard of that happening before!

I've got 2 brand new CV boots if you're interested? They were for my turbo but I ended up buying too many!! ol  I don't know if the same size for yours?

Had one close call on someone buying last week but they got swayed by one with loads of performance goodies on it. Surprised I've not had more interest so far but at least it means I can enjoy it all the more :D

Re-fitted my newly painted badge panel complete with shiny new Porsche badge and new gasket for it. Will be a shame to start collecting stone chips all over again!

Stripped all 4 cv joints and replaced one where the hardening had worn through.Repacked and refitted them and it still makes a whirring noise in time to wheel rotation.Wheel bearings seem to be OK and transaxle output bearing seems to be OK - not sure what to try next.Probably just turn the stereo up

Maybe its not common, I just read about some locking kits last night and about the common issue of them falling off, which gave birth to the kits.

Luckily my boots are the fine, good and sealed. But thanks for the offer. Having done some leg work and it turns out my type 3 has the same driveshafts and bolts as the 944 so I can get the bits from my vw supplier where I get a nice discount too.

I can certainly say I'm interested in your turbo but its about twice the budget I've got at the moment which some what reduced my buying power haha.

Hopefully someone will buy my beetle this week, just waiting to hear back from a couple. Finger crossed

Removed the modern cd player and fitted a period early 80's Audioline radio/cassette complete with graphic equaliser.....wow, it's so 1980's it's cool......plus I finally fitted the little triangular cover over the sunroof microswitch and replaced the passenger door window switch....windows, roof and radio all donated from a 924 at bridges breakers

Whine from the transaxle? Or maybe torque tube bearings?

Or that traffic warden you ran over!

Nah , can't be a traffic warden - It is in the fastest colour
Don't think it's the torque tube as it is definitely speed related , and it's quiet when stationery.
Tried to simulate it by jacking the back end up and running it through the gears - lots of ttransaxle noise but no wah - wah noise ( which is what it sounds like ).Have changed brake discs / pads and wheels but no difference.

Replaced drivers side engine mount yesterday.....that was fun.....looks like an original mount ive taken out so its had 94k and is not pretty.

As its my first 944 ive never done this before. I got a mount from bert gear at berlyn who said i wouldnt need any new bolts, but with hindsight i think he meant if i was replacing a new style mount.
Ive had to use the old bolts and spacers into the new mount but they stick out at the bottom a few mm and Im wondering if this may rub against the rubber below.
Took the car for a spin after and it feels like a new vehicle altogether, but im concerned about the mount bolts.

Should I get some new ones, ( are 40mm M8 the right size? ) and refit them so they are flush with the bottom of the mount, or is this not an issue to bother about? :?
Any opinions appreciated

Not really what I've done today but over last week or so.

Car has been laid up for a year following surgery (on me) but trying to breathe life back into it so here is the list so far:

New wheels and Tyres from Mas as the old ones were getting perished.
Acquired spacers to fit the new wheels (had to go to the other clubs forum for them  )

Dropped the car into garage ready for MOT but knew it would fail on:
Rear brake lines, so they are being replaced.
Cracked windscreen (went over winter so insured the car and new one being fitted this week)

Quick service to be carried out.

New rear hatch when I can get down to Avants2turbo to collect.
Stitched the original steering wheel back together, leather dye and treatment. Aftermarket Momo to come off and all dashboard bulbs to be replaced hopefully (possibly LED bulbs)

Then a good clean, polish and hopefully get out to enjoy the summer.
