Found a car what do you think?

Post by jaked »

I had decided i would go for a car from one of the respected Porsche specialists for some piece of mind / guarantee and pay the extra money, i could not buy private needed finance, so i was due to go to RSJ today to see an 05 silver 997 c2s, 50k miles, £29k, new clutch, tyres, discs etc. But last night saw the car below on PH it had just come up, the work that has been done really appeals to me and it is my preferred colour, so i have put a deposit on just need to sort the details next week :D

Car looks good, the only thing it doesn't mention is the front rads. Does it come with any warranty?

Looks impressive, the Hartech rebuild is piece of mind as well. Barry is a well respected engine builder.

The car looks fantastic but why would a car with only 50k on the clock need a complete rebuild !

Scored bores i believe, i know that would put many people off but quite a few have got this problem and been rebuilt / engine replaced or its being managed to try and stop it getting worse, at least i should survive it for a good few years now.

So the front rads would they need replacing by now?

Also seen people posting about over revs / dme readings, i have asked the dealer a few questions including these details, whats the deal with this i hear if it has been over revved very difficult to sell on?

Cheers for the comments :)

If the front rads are are good, then no problems there. It's just something to look for. It's a matter of where it's lived, in Scotland the would be due, but not a big job.

The over revs things won't be a problem if it's had an engineer rebuild since it was overe revved. It actually quite hard to over rev them to that extent unless you miss a gear. The limiter kicks in before it ticks over. As long as you don't overe rev it again before you sell it. 8)

I'll try :D
Had an S2 elise for 5 years that needed the obligatory head gasket, went again, then needed a new block with the liner heights even, rock solid after that. A few months after it all happened i recalled a trackday at bedford, first in a car, i did miss a gear, clutched it very quick but maybe that was the reason. When i got my zx6 i found the gear change really awkward decided to change to race shift pattern, took a bit of getting used to, changed wrong way in the heat of the moment a couple of times at Cadwell, luckily has a slipper clutch which helped me out a bit!

Has anyone had this exhaust mod pipe thing done on 996/7? I would like it to sound good but not really loud, i dont want to wake the neighbours up.

A Hartech engine is a good engine, I would sleep well at night with one of their engines (maybe not actually in my bed of course)

Rads, they tend to collect leaves, and along with the air conditioning condensers, tend to rot away at the bottom. The condensers can also suffer from stone impacts.. good idea on any post 1999 Porsche to fit some front grills.

Engine failure with the standard factory engine can be a small amount of russian roulette.. one in every few hundred can go pop, just like any car... but in a marque with very few faults, they seem to be talked about a lot in the forums.. but it is much less common than you might believe.

Head gasket can go pop anytime in any car, beyond 10 years is pushing it, so I change mine every 10 years on all my cars, but to be honest, sometimes they can fail sooner, sometimes they can last twice as long.. but no one likes to be on the side of the road in a cloud of coolant steam.. especially in a Porsche.. the public like nothing more than seeing a nice car broken down as they hoon past in their MOT gamble car.
Clean it, wax it, love it, ENJOY it... then fix it

Jake, is this a done deal? I have been off the plot for a couple of days and did not see this thread, the car looks great, and all the important stuff been done. Are you bringing it down to our meet on the 7th May, and the Slot car racing on the 10th? We will be pleased to see you

Regard Steve
