[quote="nicksonmsport"]not a spec of rust on the whole car! shell is great! i imagine its very light aswell, although its still running glass hatch and heavy steel bonnet so could loose a fair bit of weight there if needed.
[quote]

Speaking to the guys at Pro-9 at the weekend they tend to leave the glass hatch on 924's as they are more stable at speed with the weight over the back axle.

Nice welds on the cage by the way :D

yeah i have heard that aswell! tbh changing the rear hatch for perspex is a right mission anyway, and quite costly, so its not something i would do tbh. the main aim with this car is to check it over, service and re commision it! try not to get to carried away!

I fitted a polycarbonate hatch to my series one 944 and ended up taking too much weight out. It may have been better if Id carried on lightening the front, of course.

well the heater blower turned up, great bit of stuff, very light (as in 500g light) 2 wires, and blows hot air so just need to install that.

did a very scientific test to check the quaife lsd was still in the gearbox, which consisted of going onto some gravel, and launching it, every time it left 2 clear lines and you could feel the lsd locking up so thats amassive bonus!

also changed the starter motor for my 951 starter, which is not only about half the weight of the original, it also starts on the button every time now!!

a good day!

also gave the fuel filler cap to my paint people to match/identify the paint, and supply me with a couple of aerosols to paint the new bits of the cage.

took it for a little blat up the lane aswell, pulls very well!

will be giving it another coat once its all dry

i think the plan now is to re commission the car, give it a good once over, a full service and cambelt change, a new set of tyres, an mot, and then it will be sold on once tested, to raise funds for the 996tt i want by the end of the year!

Pre 1986 cars will be eligible for the MSA historic rally championship from 2014, the 924T would be a good car for that, particularly on tarmac.

very nice, I was going to try and buy this when it was on ebay, looks like I missed out your photos show it in a far better state than the ebay photos.

This would make a great car for the willhire revival 6 hrs meeting - if you are interested in doing this I am interested in driving we need a 3rd driver let me know if of any interest.

I think the Willhire revival meeting is aimed at cars that actually competed in the original Willhire races. However, there is the 360 mrc 6 hour at Donington Park later in the year. This is aimed at club level competitors and 924s have done very well in previous years.

Have a look at the 360 mrc website.

Previous races have been run at Snetterton but this year the 6 hour will be run at Donington for the first time.

An ideal race for a 924T!

or the other option which im considering, is to drop my 944 turbo lump into this shell? 300+hp and lots of torque, in a lightweight prepped shell? then sell my evo and use this as my track car??

looking at the 924t tuning thread, almost all of what jon at jm garage says, is to fit a load of 944 turbo parts onto the 924 engine.

i have most of the bits i need on the shelf, will the bellhousing bolt up to the 924t torque tube? or can i use the 924t bellhousing on the back of the 944t engine.

i think it would be a weapon with the well set up chassis, quaife lsd, and a 350hp 944t engine??
i would most likely fit my azev wheels and a cgt body to cater for wider wheels and bigger tyres to put the power down.

i have m030 brakes in stock, can these be made to fit 924t hubs? its already running 944 5 stud hubs so wheels and discs will bolt on!

im thinking it could be a cheap (ish) project, and would make for a very quick car?

thoughts?

If you fit the CGT kit on it then you may as well bolt all the engine, crossmember, TT, box, torsion bar carrier, suspension, brakes etc from the 944 turbo. Trying to mix and match may give you a headache as some are compatible and some are not. Sorry can't give you the exact differences as I nor as far as I'm aware anyone else we know of has done it to compare notes.

Either way, a modified 924T engine or 944T engine/chassis will be fun in this car. Now crack on with it before you change your mind again!! :D

If you do go for 944 running gear then first dibs on the 924 gearbox or at least the LSD please.
