I will be classed as greedy when the welder bloke finally turns up so that I can get the rear (now all powder coated) torsion bar, bushes
and bits installed.
I am 1" away from getting my own Tig welder.

Welder bloke came and went finally.
Started putting the back end back together. Lining up the torsion carrier into the chassis mounts has been 'fun'.
Long time spent getting very little done.

it does but I am gagging for some fun driving it.Waylander wrote:Keeps you out of trouble Rob
Torsion carrier is in.
Had a heart stopping moment when I realised that the single M10 bolts holding the top chassis mounts (944 331 076 00, now replaced with https://partworks.de/en-briefware-ausla ... param=1261)were still in... and given the mare that removing all the old bolts at the back was a barrel of laughs, I thought 'here we go' but the fact that I had drenched everything in de-blocker for some considerable time meant they actually came out easily. Yes, you heard it: easily. Phew.
Rear trailing arm (bananas) insertion is proving tight. Very tight. Given there's no variation on the bush width across 9xx models, i'll just have to persevere. Trolley jack, sweat, crow bar, profanities, power flex lube...

Just think of all the money you have saved by not needing to go to the gym, meanwhile the search continues for a 840ci

E30 2.7 Alpina

And meanwhile, 944 prices are pretty deflated despite OEM spares going up and up.

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
So it wasn’t today or even yesterday but on the bank holiday Monday, I got some decent garage time and figured out how to reassemble the refurbished steering rack & then got it reinstalled on the car. Got to replace one jubilee clip and one banjo bolt and that will be that job ticked off the list.
That was the good news. The bad is that the brake line that runs to the rear of the car is severely corroded and will need to be replaced as there is zero chance of it getting through the MOT with the line as it is

Yay! A post on the TIPEC forum.
That'll clear some accumulation of Tumbleweed. How did you get in the door!?
Good to 'see' you H. Does that mean you're close to getting an MOT?

Hi Rob,
Sadly, I am some way from an MOT. I have a lot to do and am uncertain of the best order in which to do it. I also need a couple of things to fall into place which is proving rather easier to write than to actually get to happen
I’ll drop you a PM too.

Re: What did you do to your 924/944/968 today?
Over a year since the last post on this thread and it was me as well!
Today, I attempted to remove the transaxle. It actually went rather well up until it was time to remove the two bolts that attach the mount to the transaxle. They had corroded inside the mount and it took longer to remove these two items than it did to do everything else and that included removal of both drive shafts.
However, the transaxle is steadfastly refusing to budge! I haven’t missed any bolts, the coupler is undone and clear , all the electrical connections are disconnected and the plastic shroud is also out of the way. I’ve put a piece of timber between the torque tube and the torsion bar housing as recommended, the gear selector shaft is pushed as far forward as I can get it but the bloody transaxle will not budge!
Any ideas / suggestions gratefully received.
