Hi all
I have a 1990 s2 which I bought as a project , it had been sat for 6 years.
After sorting a few things I got the engine started and running, oil pressure came up and all looked ok.
The next time I started the car there was no movement at all on the oil pressure gauge in the dash. Got under the car and found one of the wires had come off the oil pressure sender which I repaired with a new spade connector grimped on. Still no oil pressure reading on the dash. So I've replaced the sender and checked the OPRV ! Still no reading on the dash.
Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue and what I need to do to fix it ?????
Want to get the car MOT'd but don't want to drive it until this is fixed

The oil pump on 944's is pretty much bullet proof so let's hope that it's not that, if the engine had been running even a short time with no pump working you'd know it pretty quickly. I think that I would start checking all the wiring (most likely) for continuity first as you've already eliminated the sender. If that's ok I'd take the binnacle out and check the gauge itself, these cars are getting on a bit now and their solder joints may be drying out of breaking, a common fault and reason for gauges not showing full fuel tanks etc.

Regards

Pete

I was about to say it's the cluster.

944s if the oil pressure wire comes off fail to the max position. They do not register zero.

If you have the facilities try out the Clark'es Garage tests which should reveal electical continuity problems. When my new engine was fitted the connections to the sender had been reversed, shoudn't have happened as they are different connectors but that gives funny readings. Best answer is to use a mechanical guage. Removing the sender is awkward, I used a bent motorcycle spanner and an Irish screwdriver. If the sender is good and an open circuit gives max reading, then a short circuit would give zero. Removing the instrument binacle needs care and a good read up first, loads of write ups on tint. A good oportunity to improve illumination with leds, bacofoil the reflectors etc. My money is on the sender or a short in the wiring somewhere.

I would go back to your link repair. If it was previously working ok, then you found a dodgie wire but check the earth return before you start going for the dash.
