Cayenne eating engine oil

I friend of mine bought a brand new Cayenne and after a few weeks noticed the oil level was really low. He took it into the main dealer and had it topped up, but a week or two later it did the same. He took the car back thinking there must be an oil leak but they said it was normal for the engine to simply eat the oil.

He got rid of the car and now has a Range Rover which doesn't do this.

Is this normal for a Porsche engine to eat the oil?

which model ?
the V8's especially the turbo do use oil
I probably get through about a litre every 1500 miles ( i.e. 2 weeks)
from memory, the book says 1 litre every 1000K is normal !

very normal for v8 turbos
think when we contacted porsche they specified at least 1/2 litre to 600 miles is normal which means you need a mobil 1 tanker to follow you around along with the fuel tanker....

Hi My wife & I bought a new Panamera 4.8 s Sept 2010. From new it has used 1 litre of oil per 600 to 800 miles (car has currently covered 5k miles). Our local dealer says this is normal for Panamera's and all other Porsches. I've never owned a car that goes through (Inc. Land Rovers Jags & old Bentley's) so much oil. There is no sign of oil leaks or oil residue on the tail pipes or rear end. Concerned at the dealers lack of interest. This is our first Porsche and anticipated to keep for circa 10 years - I don’t want to find I’ve a pup in three years’ time just as the warranty ends. Are there any other Panamera owners on the forum getting such high oil consumption?

Also when will Porsche make their Sat Nav's UK compliant and have 7 digit post codes available

Dominic

Interesting, my 968 rarely needs a top up - I do get the oil changed regularly and the car is very well maintained mind. I do up to 4K a year in miles.

Not a Cayenne but my Cayman also seems to drink oil and quessies put to Porsche get the usual 'it's normal' answer. I seem to be adding approx. 1/4 - 1/2 litre a week on typically only about 100 miles!!!!!!!!!! Someone's suggested trying a thicker oil than the Porsche recommended 0W/40 - will try it when I've learnt more about oils.

Apparently there is a software uprage to stop this happening on the Cayenne. :D
