I have discovered the reason why the battery goes flat over night, the headlamp motor on my 944 is draining it. The 4-pin plug does not look too healthy but apart from that I cannot understand what is happening. Obviously there is a short but what can I do about it? Any ideas?

Dead relay? Try unplugging it (the one on the motor itself) & see if the drain stops.
My normal technique for this sort of issue is to disconnect the positive battery terminal then connect a decent size bulb in series & start pulling fuses/relays & connectors. When the bulb goes out then that is the circuit with an issue.

get a diagram and start isolating various parts of the circuit and measure the current drain. It wont take too long to isolate an area that is draining the current and the culprit.
