Onboard Diagnostics with iphone

Hey chaps
Bear with me as this may take some explaining
Has anyone had any experience with EOBD ( i believe that this the European version of ODBII) on the Boxster 986 (uk model)
The reason is; I'm looking at buying a 2003 Boxster S but there is no dashboard computer. Now being a lover of tech i thought that you should be able to connect your iphone (or other phone) to the engine diagnostics
i found this for the US OBDII standard that can work with bluetooth or wifi but i don't think that it'll work with UK cars (different standards)

Apparently the same EU equivalent standard wasn't implemented until 2001 on petrol cars. See link:

What standard does Porsche use? Or is it proprietary?
Sorry to ramble!
Cheers
Jason
