Hello to all,

With the weather being like it is i'm hoping to get my black 928 looking great for spring. In the past i've always been happy with Auto Glym products but would be interested to hear what other owners/users think. I'm mostly interested in an exterior cleaner and polish but also anything for blacking plastic trim.

I don't normally go for the expensive special polishes mainly use stuff you can buy from most auto suppliers.
I have used AutoGlym and found it very good to get on and remove even in indirect sunshine, I have tried Meguires Gold and Meguires Xtreme (think that's right) and they were both pretty good but more difficult to polish off than the autoglym. The best I used was some high Carnuba stuff given as a present cant remember the name but I know it was expensive and the container was only small, this was easy to put on and remove and left a brilliant shine but considering the price difference to AutoGlym or Meguires not that good. So although not a verdict I personally have concluded that any of the decent name mid range priced polishes seem to do a good enough job for me and my car, although this may not be good enough for some others as my daily driver it does me.

I must add however that I do claybar my car twice a year and this does definitely make the paintwork feel smoother far more than any polish.

Whether it makes any difference or not my car is metallic Titan Grey which does shine up easier than my previous red 924S.

wash with meguiars, and polish, then for a fantastic finish i use the showroom shine product that is advertised on the tv, gives a stunning shine

You need to clay bar first and get rid of all the crap that's stuck to the paint.

Then polish then wax. Meguiars range is very good the new tech wax 2.0 they make is very easy to use.

Their trim detailer is also excellent at bringing rubber back to life and restoring that new black look. Use it sparingly and give it time to soak in and then apply a second coat if needed. Shake the bottle very well before use.

Don't forget to show us some pictures when you've finished.

Meguiars for me too. You need a lot of clean cotton cloths or it's hard to get off. You'le need some heat in this weather.

If it's hard to get off, spray the panel lightly with a plant spray on fine mist then buff to a shine.

CLay it - if its bad a hard clay like Bilt Hamber, if its not too bad then a soft one like Sonus green

Paint Clean - Megs Paint cleaner is good my fave is Zymol HD cleanse

Polish - assuming hand polish then Megs polish is ok

Wax - For dark cars in winter i would go for silicone / sealant. Zaino is tops or maybe Bilt Hamber autobalm that lasts ages

Wax - For dark cars in summer then more carnuba based (doesnt last so long) my fave is and I cant yet beat it, is dodo juice supernatural.

As to trim then Megs is ok but greasy I prefer Chemical Guys new look trim gel.... that also does tyres as well as added bonus.

I've never used a clay bar before. Do you use it after washing the car with a shampoo?

Any recommendations for black foam rubber (rear lip spoiler on my 928).

yes, clay is used after cleaning the car.
you need a suitable lube - depends on the clay type used - range from plain water to detail spray (megs last touch e.g.)

Hello to everyone,

Its been a while, but finally got round to buying a stack of products and cleaning my car on Easter Sunday. Extremely happy with the products that i used and the end results. Photos were indoors but hopefully you can tell.

I bought everything from a guy called Nick at Clean Mitts, who has posted on this forum and also gave me a discount. In the end i went for the following:

Meguiars wheel Brightner
Meguiars Tyre Gel
Meguiars Clay Kit
Poorboys SSR1 Polish
Pinnacle souveran wax

That looks fantastic, black is great.... when it is clean!
