Is it just me?

I went into Staples.
I picked up a packet of blank DVDs costing £9.78.
I took out a £10 note.
I stood in the queue by the cash desk holding the packet and the £10 note.
I placed the packet and the £10 note on the counter when my turn came.
Whereupon the foreigner manning the cash desk said "Do you want to buy these?"
Whereupon I said "No, I just put them there as I thought they'd make the counter look pretty. Of course I want to buy them."
I noticed on leaving the shop with my purchase that everyone was staring at me.
