Trip to MIRA

Post by PaulPSB »

Hi Folks

After circulating to Central Region via email all but one of the places for this trip have been taken.
There is one place remaining

We are visiting MIRA http://www.mira.co.uk/ on Sunday 26th April. Arrive at Main gates from 9.30am for a 10am start.
Visit will last 2 -3 hours

If there is enough interest we will pop for a beer and a spot of lunch afterwards.

If you want the remaining place email Brian on mymerak@aol.com to confim. The place will go on a first come basis.

Thanks

Paul

I have had a phone call from the MIRA site this morning

The use of cameras is definitely banned

This will also include using mobile phones for photographic purposes.

I am not surprised

Therefore for those on the visit please respect the wishes of MIRA and its clients. Others in TIPEC may wish to visit the facility in the future.

Hear hear this was a fascinating tour. Had no idea they had quite so many 'torture tests' for vehicles. Glad we just viewed them all from comfort of chauffered minibus rather than have to take our cars through them!

Thanks Brian & Paul and please pass on my appreciation to the MIRA guys who gave up so much of their time and knowledge to explain what went on behind the conifers and pass on some behind the scenes nuggets about Top Gear!

again, thanks to paul and brian, not forgetting the chaps at mira, especially neil for the insight to all that happens at mira, most of which is very hush hush, as adrian said above the testing is very torturous on the cars, and the drivers in some situations, also the wildlife that survives there is incredible, including curlews and lapwings, oh and also a black panther !!

Hi Everyone,

Glad you all seem to have enjoyed the trip

Amazing place. Perhaps one day we will get to see what also happens inside the laboratories and a few more of the really brutal outdoor tests.

I have lived in two homes within 3 miles of MIRA for many years now but never been there, today was well worth it

Bit concerned now to hear that a black panther has been spotted in the vicinity (could if have escaped from Twycross Zoo and nobody has let on); if that's not enough there are supposed to be wallabies in the Peak District; a trip planned for later on in the year

Really enjoyed this one - great insight into the workings of a site you simply wouldn't normally get to see.
Weather was good 8) to cap it all off.
