Another Caliper Question

Post by sgl1966 »

Hi , I am looking for some help with my brakes . After a spirited drive at the weekend, I have come to realise the brakes on my car are lacking .These are newly refurbished with new pistons but just are not man enough .
I have some monster s8 brembo's I was going to swap over with later spindles and hubs but that means swapping out the teledials I have become attached to for 18" wheels and I would rather not . So another option is to put those on my other car and put the s4 calipers from that on this one. Except its an 86 turbo so none of the usual caliper adapters and discs work out, even the lindsey racing ones mean going to 17" wheels .
But at the back of my mind I think I read that you can use the caliper adapters for the s4 calipers and machine down the 86 hub to fit a 928 brake disc over it (rather than the rear attachment) and it all works out . Can anyone confirm this or is my memory playing tricks on me again.

The originals should be fine so somethings amiss.

Were the pad support plates removed/cleaned? We’re new seals fitted (they make a huge difference).

Fresh fluid, freshly bled?

Sorry if these seem over-simple questions, but original design should be able to cope.

All new seals fitted and new pistons made and fitted just not inspiring confidence .

So I realised I am missing a great reason to purchase the split rims I always lusted over , so going with the S8 calipers . These are really just "big reds" with extended mounts to allow bigger discs to be used and larger piston sizes as used on F50 . The great thing is you can use big red turbo caliper adapters as the mounting bolts all align .

Not big reds those are 993 turbo or 993 RS. The M030 calipers are the same as std 993 (inverted)

I refurbished mine with new spring plates and new seals and I think one piston needed replacing and they were brilliant after. Complimented with new brake fluid and decent pads of course.

A common suspect with these 4 pots is the plate lift and there are fewer and fewer places willing to touch these now.
