New member thinking of buying a 996

Hello everyone, I'm a long term front engine owner with a couple of 924s and a 928S who fancies a 996 as a winter hack

after having the 928 properly sideways on the A66 and the 924 turbo just not getting enough heat into the cabin. I could take the wife's Range Rover but she's not keen on that
Have joined the club this week and like this one:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PORSCHE-911- ... 0009.m1982
Any views? Is the IMS bearing issue as big as people say? Am I going to get burnt on this one? Should I just buy something sensible instead?

I have to say I am not a fan of cabs, but it looks to be reasonably priced, not over on the miles either. Has got 997.1 turbo wheels ... which may or may not be genuine .... that subject to your taste could be sold off and a correct set put on.
Aftermarket exhaust and remap ... again down to personal taste.
Nice history.
As with all early cars it`s a bit of a lottery. I bought a 996 C2 coupe for 12k as my first Porsche 4 years ago, with similar miles, ignoring all the internet horror stories, got my money back a year later when I traded up to a 997.1 C4S

As a fellow transaxle lover that has also recently enjoyed the 50/50 handling of them in the snow (especially the Rothmans 924), it's difficult to see that a 996 would be any better unless it's the C4...
It's all down to personal taste on colour schemes and trim but there seems to be a lot of choice out there
The miles are adding up on my daily driver Boxster so I'm also looking at the 996's as a replacement.... I would be very happy with a soft top or coupe whether in manual or auto.
I understand some of the issues such as IMS can be blown out of proportion when reading some reports and views but good servicing seems to help reduce any potential issues.
The club meets will be invaluable to chat to existing 996 owners and look over their cars as well.
If you're local, the Cheshire and Staffs region meets at 8pm on Tuesday next week at the Kilton Inn near Mere, Knutsford if you fancy calling in to say hello

would be great to see you!

Well I bought it and have booked it into Loe Bank Porsche for a full service and check over. Have to say I feel a bit sick with nerves over it but I blame the internet for that
Do have an issue with the audio and will post up a thread about it.
Drives nicely
