944 Cab Windows

Hi Guys,
a couple of small issues on my newly acquired cabriolet.
1. Passenger can open their window but not close it - but I can operate it from the switch on the drivers side. I'm assuming the switch may need a clean or replace but just thought I'd check before I attack it with a screwdriver.
2. Drivers window drop the first 10cm or so very quickly, then it slows down to "normal" speed. Closes up OK but seems very slow. I'm guessing maybe a sticky track or something here? Any tips on getting the door cards off without breaking anything?
Thanks in advance.

Hi IanK
Your passenger window switch needs cleaning! If you don't want to dismantle it, swop with drivers door.
The door panels (cards) remove quite easily with a bit of patience. You might be able to get a bit of lube onto the window mechanism only - the motor is a sealed unit...

Dave,
thanks for the heads up - sounds as expected so time to get busy with a screwdriver.

Not sure what "normal" speed is for these windows, but mine have always seemed slow - both sides. I sometimes wonder if it'll actually make it back up, but it always does!
Cheers,

Ian K - Have you done a window switch before? If not, I suggest working the job in a shoe box, as there are a few springs and little balls etc that can easily get lost! Use a turps ear bud to clean off the arc and then it should be ok...

Flt505,
to answer your question - no.
I did it last night, luckily for me the switch was gummed up enough for the ball bearings to stick to the spring loaded pins when I opened it - in the car!
On seeing what was in there I retreated to a well lit kitchen to clean and reassemble it.
The good news is it now works -thanks.
I also took off the door card on the drivers side - as you say not too difficult. Sprayed a bit of WD40 on the window slider then quickly reassembled and left for another day when I have the time to take everything apart properly and clean before reassembling.
Apart from being pretty grimy, the only thing I noticed was that the plastic speaker "pod" had cracked where the screws fix it to the door at the bottom - so they were holding nothing!
Anyway, the door card seems to hold it firmly enough for now.
I didn't know until last night that Nokia made car Audio speakers!
Anyway - thanks for the heads up
Briggy - maybe mine are "normal" then - I'll let you know if they are any different when I venture back in there.

Save yourself the anguish for the price of a few beers.

Yes,
in fact after the "repair", it was still a bit intermittent so I bought one of those and that did the trick.
Not plucked up the courage to pull those door cards off again yet though.
