Hi All :)

My in-screen aerial on my 928 is awful for radio reception and always has been, so...

Is it possible to buy a new DAB head unit with a DAB aerial that does NOT require drilling holes in the bodywork ???

I have heard about DAB aerials that clamp to inside of glass like a GPS Aerial ???

Anyone has any experience in this ?

Cost does not matter on either the head unit or aerial as long as they work lol ...

All the best Brett :)

Lots of advice on aerials etc here:

http://www.dabonwheels.co.uk/

I had internal glass mounted aerial in my boxster and 996 a few years ago and it worked fine with my Blaupunkt head unit. I also used in my classic mini a powered splitter from the normal FM aerial but if your's is in the glass this probably wouldn't work that well.

All worth it for Planet Rock!

Have to say though, I'm surprised you're afraid of drilling it to get a proper aerial given your modifications already undertaken!

Brett if you're in screen aerial doesn't work then it is either unplugged, not connected to 12V (quite common) or the amp is dead. There are some stick on aerials for DAB but nothing I've seen looks pretty.

Hi Jim :)

Even my alarm fitter (and aerials) who is REALLY good could never find why mine doesn't work... everything is connected and it should but doesn't if you see what I mean :(

I gave up on it years ago...

As DAB came along...I thought it might be the easy answer....

All the best Brett :)

I had the screen replaced in my 996 and the reception was never the same afterwards and they threw my DAB aerial out with the old one too! Bloody Autoglass!

Having DAB could make your problem worse. Good old analogue signals are much more tolerant of interference and weak signal. You can receive a weak signal albeit with some unwanted noise. Digital however, either works or it doesn't, so a weak signal results in regular cutting out and stuttering of the audio.

I wouldn't except any sort of aerial stuffed into the back of the head unit to do a better job than one in the windscreen or roof.

Yes, that's correct, I always found signal at it's worst around the perimeter of the country obviously Poole fits into that! That dabonwheels site has good info to check your area.

I have a DAB aerial fitted to the screen - about £22 from Chavfords - works well where there is reception and looks neat and not difficult to fit.
