I pick my car up on the 21/2, I could not wait any longer:)
I am giving it an oil change, what engine oil would you recommend for 2000 911 carrera 4 996, 89000 miles?
Porsche recommends and uses Mobil 1 0w40
but from various sources, 5w40 viscosity might be more suitable?

My personal feeling is that a 5W/40 or even a 10W/40 will be better, this is also the opinion of quite a few on the US forums. Protection of the IMS & the better bore protection is the concensus of quite a few. We've discussed Millers on here before which would be one choice or alternatively an API SJ oil of which there are a few around. It doesn't have to be Porsche approved, just A3/B3 or better.
My Boxster is now running Total Quartz 7000 10W/40 from Carrefore which my local OPC put in on my last service.

Just noticed this is my 6000th Post, oh well beats working!

Thanks, I looked at Millers from your post, after putting in my car details at their website they advised XFS 5w40 it's a SL oil not SJ (phosphorus limit 0.10%)

also, where would you suggest buying parts from, ie OEM ( oil filter, air filter, plugs, pads, etc;

XFS is what was discussed a while ago & has decent levels of ZDDP so will be fine, much better than Mobil1.

Bits, with discount I find OPCs can be pretty good. Otherwise a Mahle or Mann filter from someone like JM Garage or Promax will be fine. Get a new sump plug washer whilst you are at it. Most OPCs throw one in for free when you buy the filter. If the old plug looks mangled get a new one or even a Magnetic one (available after market)
