MK2 golf CV joints

Does anyone know if MK2 golf CV joints would fit on a 944? They are very similar externally, same size/bolt pattern. Not sure if the spline fitment is the same.
I could be wrong but would have thought MK1 Golf ones MAY suit? I used my MK1 Golf wishbones from my resto stash to replace on my square dash 944, along with ball joints too. The steering rack looks MK1 Golf to me too, so assuming that the CV joints might follow suit.
Can't be certain though so don't take my word for it!
