Day 17.

Still waiting for clutch parts.
Emailed Design911 to ask where the PSP repair kit is. They promptly sent an email saying that they would check and the next thing, I get a dispatch note.
Hope the same works for the PSP reservoir.

Didn't do an awful lot today. I did annoy 51rider a little.
I figured that I could attach the engine harness to the engine with inlet manifold and then install the engine and then put the DME connector section through the firewall. Did they assemble it like this in the factory?
I think I will have to remove the throttle body as the angle of the chain to the lifting loop will come against it.

This meant that I could get good access to the top of the engine and assemble it neatly.

Before that, I noticed that the section of engine harness from firewall to DME connector block was covered in Calotherm cloth. It probably does it's job (and it was unsightly) but I elected to remove it to see if I could see anything untoward.
There wasn't thankfully but I wrapped it all back up with PVC loom tape, restoring it to 'original condition'. This took the best part of 2 hours.

(oops - but messy with a touch of copper ease for ground bolts.
I never knew the extent to which I would eventually mitigate seized bolts).

I really want to get the clutch and bell housing in before installing the engine. Then i'll be totally familiar with it and it will make another clutch change easier.
And I am so looking forward to many parts of the vehicle bereft of seized bolts and working on an engine that is clean.

Or over priced Bobbins to me.

However, i'll take deep consolation that they'll last 25 years (as opposed to 24).

Clearly my IT skills are deficient as I was unable to locate the bloody things on the bay of flea. Martin as usual took about 2.5 nano seconds to send me links to four different listings..... :?

I've replaced the 30 year old water hoses with some nice new silicon hose (in a fetching shade of black) and the standard Omega clips no longer fit, hence me needing some larger ones. I might even remember to measure the hoses tomorrow so I can actually order them....

Yes I would have liked genuine hoses, but at £400 for a engine bay set, as these were only £45....

£49 for s set of silicone hoses!!
But not available in black?...

Let me see: https://www.design911.com/Porsche/944-1 ... 81-cmo123/

When you mentioned it previously, I imagined something worse but it actually isn't too bad against the blue of your car.

My word! ( I would have used expletives but this is a family show).

How do you differentiate the dross from the good stuff?
I have never bought anything on Ali Express.
I almost bought a GT3 for $19.99.

Bollox.

Got stuck on the rear anti roll bar.
Both bolts on the offside anti-roll bar bush clamp came out with a bit of persuasion.
Only the lower one on the nearside.

I had to cut the external bolt off the upper drop link on both sides - wouldn't budge for love nor 'the Waylander'.
So i'm left with the stabiliser bar out, one clamp off, one clamp bent enough to release the bar and 2 drop links 'hanging'. Well they are there and they are not exactly hanging. I very much doubt they were doing their job. I can bend them upwards and they'll stay there.

Does anyone know if the upper (eccentric) bolt* goes through the hole in the chassis arm or is that hole threaded?
If I knew, I could probably punch it out, if it were the former.

*Yes, i've sourced 2 replacements.

I have (and I should have tried) a large stud bolt remover - this came to me in the shower. I also have 2 splitters; 2 different sizes but I can't get access.
I'll try again.

If they didn't need changing, they definitely do now. Actually, they were pretty buggered, as you can see. The upside, is that I managed to get the remnants out clean - threads on ARB bush clamp mounts are fine, so is the left hand threaded eccentric bolt holes on both sides.

I've started cleaning up the suspension arms...*
