Looking at "Blue 968's" on Google they all appear a bit lighter blue mine is more a deep royal blue if that makes sense !

Re: 944 GBC - My 1992 944 S2 3.0 - The story so far !
Managed to get round today to begin fitting my new Bilstein shock upgrade
Removed the old original units and whilst they had OK compression they had very poor rebound
Bilsteins have excellent compression and fast smooth rebound
Just need to finish off tomorrow and fit lower mount bolt
Then move onto sorting out a method of fitting the front inserts to the "crimped" S2 struts

Rear shocks all finished
Rear pads removed, calipers cleaned and park brake adjusted
All good
Front brake calipers cleaned and new shims fitted
Just need to sort out the front struts now and all ready for Dinslaken 2015 in Apr/May

Re: 944 GBC - My 1992 944 S2 3.0 - The story so far !
My 1991 built 944 S2 has "crimped" front suspension struts and as such the options for upgrades are limited
The only kit I have seen other than Porsche standard units is an adjustable Koni Kit
As I prefer to have non-adjustable "Plug and Play" front and rear suspension then Bilsteins are my only choice
but they are only available for earlier strut casing with a screw top
So having a pair of worn out front struts to play with (many thanks Chris from Manchester) I have set about stripping the units
Well the top cap is for decoration only as the 4 crimps are the made with the strut tube
More pics will follow but my lamb dinner is a calling - lol

Have you seen my earlier post re a mod for fitting B6 strut inserts into crimped S2 housings? It includes pics of the modifications in stages - I did it three years and 15,000 miles ago and can confirm B5 are still my favourite over Koni and Spax

I guessed I couldnt be the first person to try to upgrade to "Billies" - lol
My aim is to provide a collar that can be welded to the original strut tube
Hope to see my CNC man this wek - will keep you informed

You could do that - it would be a pucker job. Do keep the drawings from the job if you do as other people will follow...
My S2 is the same blue with grey interior as yours - nice combo isn't it

All the remains of the original shock absorber now removed
Oil was black and had a badly burnt smell
Also note the shattered "piston ring" from around the damper piston
Dont think that was working very well !
I better go put the kettle on at my friends CNC shop

that certainly looks like it was more than due for replacement, great idea if you make collars available to all,
someone on the 968 forum is about to this job as well.

Re: 944 GBC - My 1992 944 S2 3.0 - The story so far !
Right after a couple of coffees at the engineers we now have 2 solutions
1/ An internal sleeve (similar to what others are doing with "cut off" old strut threads)
2/ An external collar that fits over the original strut
The internal sleeve will look more "OE" when finished
But the external collar will allow the Bilstein protective bellows (supplied with the insert) to be secured correctly
I will also be fitting a nylon sleeve lower down inside the strut casing to centralise the insert
Have even sourced a RAL powder coat colour that is similar to Bilsteins
I aim to media blast the casing, attach the adaptor, powder coat the strut and fit the insert - job done
What may be feasible is strut casings converted on an exchange basis
