The knuckle to ball joint bolt is a special with a long shoulder, might have to order one of those from OPC, they were NLA for a while

Apols - I only had to chop the M10 x 45 clamp bolt on the steering knuckle.
Thankfully not the ball joint bolt.

So what holds the knuckle on the wishbone?

Pretty sure there is a bolt going horizontally through the bottom of the knuckle holding the ball joint on the wheel end of the wishbone

I know my car has one,

Yes, there's a horizontal bolt but none on the end of the ball joint spindle.
That's the one that got chopped.

Mixed wires methinks.

Day... something or other.

May have to chase transport/storage bloke up or pick up the engine myself which will make getting it off my van tricky*.

*All social distancing measures will be taken and no can argue that it's not essential.

The new black is er, ... black

Wishbones... Started like this:

...and are now looking like this:

Half way there. I have enameled the bearing carriers since that shot and i'm waiting for the Alu cleaner via Royal Snail (all things considered, they're doing a great service) and then i'll have them looking shiny hopefully.

Apart form the wish bones, I haven't done a lot but been at it all day. Cleaning, tidying, taking stock of everything and I took delivery of:
Lug nuts
Spire nuts
Copper (crushable) copper washers and
SS P clamps.
+ some assortment boxes for storing the above.

What will I do at the weekend...

Yep.

According to PET M10 x 45 x 20.

I have ordered 2 x the above in grade 10.9 High tensile, 1.25 pitch.
Surely that should to the job?

It’s the none threaded shoulder that’s the important part

When I did mine years ago the bolts were NLA so I bought some with long shouldered and cut them down, even then the shoulders were to small diameter and flopped around in the hole

I see. Deployment of a shim perhaps?

Day... where are we? 15?

Went with van and picked up my engine. Sod waiting for transport bloke.

Wahey!

Image

Did a bit of faffing around the engine. (Spent the whole of yesterday cleaning and tidying the garage/bits/bolts/order of stuff. Spent the whole of Saturday sorting out fuel lines).
Got delivery of Alu cleaner today...and glad I ran out of it pretty quickly - you could go silly with it.
So I went to fit the clutch and realised there were no bearings for the release lever nor the bearing sleeve. It's supposed to be a clutch KIT isn't it?
Engine will have to wait.
Meanwhile I could fit ECU and harness. I even cleaned out the expansion tank - it's a shade of pastel yellow now, rather burnt umber.

Thanks.

It ain't magic solution - I still did the hard work with the wire wheel at the end of stage 2 (after the second pic) and it didn't remove Dinitrol.
What I did notice though, is it's good at removing that 'fur' you were talking about (and it stinks as it reacts :D ).

Anyway, it's a good time to have a Porker - if you can store a few barrels of crude oil, it would be even better.

£1.06 per litre. Some places in London are charging less than a pound per litre!
That's pre 2008 prices.
