On that note, where can you get the clamps such as 999 511 066, illustration 403-02? I had to chop a few.

The release bearing pin is fine; no play. I was just wondering about the needle roller bearings that the clutch release lever pivots on, though I think they're fine.

I did just that.

Nice to think that I can replace all those dull, slightly rusty P clips with shiny things.

Bit of a PITA as I had looked on the PET to get exact sizes but not many sizes were listed. Out with the Vernier calipers and around the car I went

In the same vein, I have sourced quite a few replacement bolts in High tensile steel for cross members, wishbones etc. Not cheap.
This is on the back of spending 2 and a half days sorting what was a slight metallic clunk over any significant bump in the 997. I found out it was the long 140mm bolt on the silencer bracket that had sheared. Had to chop most of the others out and re-tap a heat shield bolt aperture and 2 exhaust manifold bolt holes. I replaced all the bolts in the exhaust system with A4 SS.
But this has paid me back in droves: coil pack and spark plug replacement; doddle, silencers x2 replacement; doddle, tail pipe ends replacement; doddle.

...and yes, even 997 's are prone to the Porsche dreaded seized bolt syndrome.
I think i'll abbreviate - PSBS. D'ya think it will catch on?

I'm just trying to convince the OH that I need to do a teensy weensy bit of work and it's absolutely necessary...

Tomorrow: front cross member, exhaust cross member and engine bay clean up #3. Then I've turned the corner so to speak. I'm sure i'll find other bits and pieces to do. Engine and box should be out of storage on Monday or Tuesday.

Anyone going to lend me a clutch alignment tool please?

Day 7.

I saw to the front cross member. Covered in Dinitrol underseal. I have spent the best part of 6 (filthy) hours trying to clean it up.
A few other bits were done but not a lot.

Broke a drill bit drilling out old stud bolts, and then discovered that my M6 tap is shagged. Off to see exactly what should attach to them...

Now all I need to do is spend 2 hours cleaning up all the mess.

I have never had an undertray on mine. It would hardly ever be on for long!
Is yours in 2 parts?

Yes 2 parts,

Only really need the front one, effects aero and engine cooling

The second alloy tray, I’m not sure what extra that gives other than a place for all the things I drop to collect

I presume given they are plastic, they will clean up.

I have used black plastic spray on a few things such as the wiper/heater motor cowling to good effect but those trays will get a lot of abuse/exposure.

Does your S2 have a 'bat wing' underneath the front apron?

I have both trays thanks, and the strange man charges nearly what a new one is

I always got to Porsche first and anywhere else a distant second

No point in paying £150 for a 30 year old part that’s only £175 brand new with no ripped out mounting holeA

The man charges £20 for a fuel sender cover, they are only £4.38 brand new

I had never looked into it for myself.

it will be consideration given how clean and tidy things will be (hopefully). I see the rear tray is listed at Design911 as well.

Not sure what design911 want for the trays

Porsche price front tray 142, alloy rear tray 120 inc vat and free to collect

Considering design 911 want £43 for the cruise throttle cable, Porsche want £10.80 for the same part

When I use Porsche, I use the Edinburgh outlet. I have never got good customer service from the Glasgow branch.
It's funny that.

9 Apart are usually my first port of call.
However, Design 911 supplied me 2 x Stainless steel silencers and 2 tail end pipes for the 997 for £812 incl. VAT and carriage. They're aftermarket giving an extra 8bhp (apparently). Beautifully built items. Should last another 100k.
Porsche OEM £550 each plus vat!!
Yet D11 want over £1100 plus VAT for the steering knuckle on the 944 - each!

Frazer part did an exchange AFM for the 944 (by far the best improvement from anything I have done to the car), a very modest £185. I wasn't going to start fiddling with a worn out potentiometer.

I shop around and given that my 944 has cost me (including purchase cost), way in excess of what the 997 has cost me, I try and keep a lid on things.

Incidentally, there's an S2 on Fleabay for sale. It looks really good. Linen interior too @ £20k and £30,000 worth of receipts ! (if the guy/sale is genuine). This 944 malarkey is pricey or what.
