How do you manage the tyre situation and spannering?
Generally with fingers crossed!

Actually, short of a quick check over beforehand, it's pretty reliable. And the tyres are road legal. Short of that, there's the old RAC card to rely on!

Hi Andy
Thanks for the comments...it is a fantastic car to drive. Not exactly the most forgiving on the road though.

I'm south of Bristol but just about to move to Glastonbury.

And if anyone is going to the RS track day at Oulton Park on Friday 8th March, you're more than welcome to come out in the car.

I'll be at Oulton, a track I know well from my days serving as a medical officer many moons ago. Would relish the chance to experience it from a passenger perspective :)

As I'm as mechanical as a banana and I've never been really interested in getting my hands dirty until I got my 993 I thought I'd start on a couple of simple things and keep clean.

Fix 1 Last Week: Light Switch Bulb

Whilst reading a thread on 911UK.com a 993 owner noticed that the light switch for the side / head lights didn't illuminate when the ignition is turned on. Apparently there is a bulb behind the switch. Checked mine and it didn't work either.

Not a great photo but the ignition is one and the switch isn't illuminated.

Bought an Osram 2721 12V 1.2W bulb via eBay, pulled of the light switch, pull out the bulb, switch back on and ignition on.

:D

Fix 2 Today: New Mats

The mats in my 993 have seen better days, the drivers mat had a whole worn it, the passenger one wasn't to bad, the rears were ok but seem to have been stuffed in the foot well and were all bent.

I'd bought some new mats a couple of months ago but hadn't got round to fitting them. Compare the old with the new:

Thinking about a door mat in the garage next to the car so I can wipe my feet before getting in.

My Porsche apprentice then inspected the mats:

Not very exciting but a start for me.

Next time I strip a gearbox.*

Took my friends lad to his Prom tonight in the 911, some serious metal turned up, 4 other Porsches (all 997s of varying flavours), 3 Astons, 4 Bentleys (one from the 50s), 6 Jags (1 F type), a 70s Mustang Mach 1 which the guy just kept sitting there revving it up, 3 stretched limos and a stretched RR sport plus some others which slip my mind and 3 horses and carts, unfortunately the weather was awful and the security ? were very quick to act with the brollies to save the girlies hair-dos

Went to Prescott Revival today, great weather with some serious hill action, even took mine up the hill on a very spirited  parade lap chasing a 997

Roads dried out nicely this afternoon so put 60 odd miles on the odometer, only went there and back to see how far it was, got a couple of waves from Boxster drivers
