Sorry but that's a bit of a bold claim - do you have any proof of this?jmgarage wrote:We have had up to 700 ft-lbs of torque from the 3.2's

Still looking at the different options, maybe swaying towards a different path though but will see... Need to check a few bits n bobs first ;D

Not sure about compression. I don't know anoth to give advice. But your right with the rule. Change your turbo while the engine out fab work will be a breeze that way.
Clucth wise mines holding up well should be stock with 120k on. Had a little slip high in revs but not often. 930 or cup clucth can be used
What's your plans head wise?
Boost wise your get simmler power at 1/1.2 bar with larger turbo that you could with 1.5 bar slightly smaller turbo just depends on how you feel about boost. I don't track so I'm not On boost repeatedly which prob makes it safer to run it slightly higher then most. There's a big step up in beefing everything up from 400/500.

Think I need a different turbo for the new engine!!!
Does anyone have any experience with variable-geometry turbos?
Definitely going to need an up-rated clutch and to look at the rest of the drive train but going for smooth delivery of power so nothing too crazy... hopefully...
SO excited!!

have you spoken to hartech? they built a 3.0 that has been beaten around various tracks so well proven. i think there was a thread about it on pistonheads.

Vt turbos are hard to fit finding the room for them, could go lower with the turbo and mount it off something else rather then the engine mount.
Gtx should be plenty with the rest off your mods but don't let that put you off the Vt

Hi LarJammer, yes the 3.0ltr Hartec car is an amazing machine that shows exactly what good engineering and low end torque is capable of! Just keep re-reading the 3.0 liter builds across the forums, so many great machines out there... Turbotim3's car is a monster and something to aim for
Work is crazy at the moment though so not much time to try to get to grips with whats needed and work on the parts list. Has anyone moved the turbo to the hotside or is it just not possible/no room/pointless?
Also trying to work out where I can move the radiators to...
Are dry sumps purely for racing? What kind of engine build would need one? (I'm guessing at a high revving one, but doesn't the oil pickup/sump mod fix this for us (non-racing)?)

Re: 3.0 liter 944 turbo project thoughts, ideas, knowledge..
Current build plan...
2.5 turbo bottom end modified to fit the head
Low comp pistons
Con rods
104 sleeves
Squirters, pickup extended and sump modified
968 crank
968 head exhaust valves uprated
custom intake to cold air feed - yet to sort
Intercooler mounted front - yet to sort
2x radiators mounted front flanking the intercooler - yet to sort
Clutch... no idea at the moment
Turbo... also no idea at the moment but compression ratio will be dropped
Drive shafts - again no idea but will prolly need some help
LSD - may need to uprate
Grearbox have a 944t may just brace but...
Sooo a lot to do, all of it a welcome challenge though!!

3.0, I'm still collecting parts
. You seem to be reading too much Rennlist
. You have a big valve head ready to fit, why are you thinking about a 968 head ? You've got an S2 crank, what do you think the 968 crank will do ? Two radiators, why. Back in the day WUF made over 400 bhp, a set of decent rods, and some appropriate oversize pistons will take you to 2.8. Add a matched BB turbo, or modify the spare turbo you've got, and you will lose the excessive lag the car has and have all the torque/power the chassis can use.

Yes but its good to read and and yes ;D
Big valve head won't flow as much as a 968 head...
Dual radiators for the modified engine cooling 1 radiator per 2 cylinders...
I know refresh the bottom end but... why not more than 400 and make those breaks work!
Yes, likely to be some spare parts going.... maybe....
