My car is used once a week on average, fast road use (IMO).
Its done 76,000, and is running at a good standard 252.6bhp!
Its due an oil change/service soon, iam not happy with the oil warm up time.
Will the type of oil make a big change?

I would try a good 5w-40 synthetic, this will warm up fast. Dont worry about using a synthetic it will be fine. My choice would be the ester based Silkolene Pro S 5w-40 here

hi OPIE
looking for the correct engine oil for my modified Porsche 930 1988
3.3 ltr turbo
many mods running around 500 hp at the flywheel
The car is used quite hard doing road & track around 3 to 4000 miles a year with the odd long runs to Le Mans / Nurburgring
Oil temps are fine running between half to two thirds whilst tracking I also have a manual cooling fan control
The old girl does use a little of the black stuff but not excessive
The Engine was rebuilt at just over 100K she is now hitting 150K
At the moment using 10w/40 semi synthetic Castro Magnetic
Any Ideas
Cheers

Hi
As it's not getting that hot or using much oil, I'd stick with a 10w-40.
http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-657-10w-40.aspx
The best ones are the Gulf Competition, Motul 300V, Red Line and Millers CFS. As a cheaper alternative the Fuchs Syn MC, Shell HX7, Motul 6100 and Millers XSS/Trident are good choices.
Cheers

Hi
I am driving a 944 s2 one of the very last ones, no mods, daily driver and pleasure driving 4000 max per year.
119K miles on the clock, oil consumption is minimal.
Currently using a ECP branded 10w40 semi synthetic.
I have heard much about ZDDP content.
Any recommendations welcome
Mark

Hi Mark
ZDDP content is useful, but a lot of people seem to think it's the only thing that matters. If you want the best protection for it, go for an ester based 5w-40 or 10w-40. As well as being ester based, which has a few benefits in protection terms, they also have high a ZDDP content.

Cheers Tim,
Any recommendations for less high end oil, the budget won't stretch to those products.
I was looking at maybe mobile 2000 type product as I believe it has a reasonable zddp and protection at a reasonable price point
Cheers Mark

Hi Mark
If you want a good ZDDP level, it's best to go for a API SL oil, so take your pick from these.
