Just wondered if any experts out there would give advice and suggest their choice of tyres for a Cayman 3.4S with 19" Carrera S wheels

My friend has copied my 911 choice and fitter Michelin pilot sports 2's. What's on it now? Are they any good?

I haven't had the Cayman long enough to decide just how good these tyres are...............all tyres are currently Bridgestone Potenza RE050A and have about 3mm of tread, am I correct in saying these are run flat tyres?
I presume it won't be too long before I need to change them! Anyone like to guess how many more miles to go before I need to do this??
I'm not sure exactly how much these would cost to replace? are they better or more expensive or cheaper than the alternatives??
Advice is much appreciated.

Pop your tyre sizes in a few sites to find out how much they are, Click here for tyrexpress and Click here for Camskill. I get them delivered to the house and get a local tyre fitter to fit them for me.

I don't know anyone who runs the Bridgestones. My frind runs Pirelli P Zero's and loves them, but I prefer the Michelins. The Michelins take 500 miles to scrub in, not sure about the Pirelli? I think you have a few thousand miles left in the ones you have, depends on how hard you try. On all my cars, I get a full geometry done after fitting new tyres, it gives them the best chance of surviving. I'm lucky there is a local guy who does work for OPC and is cheap (£50) for a full before and after print out.

It's a step further than alignment. Not only does it check if the wheels are pointing in the right direction, but the camber of the wheel too. My geometry is slightly out of (well at the limit of) factory settings. It helps the front end understeer. My camber had to be adjusted on the rear as my rear tyres were bald on the inside edge but had 2.5 mm on thr outside edge. I should get a few thousand miles out of the new tyres.

Pilot Sports are the default choice - had them on a 986s and they were good. Then went a bit "budget" & fitted Falken FK 452's and they were as good as the Pilot Sports for me.

Fast forward a bit to the current 997s which came to me on RE05A. I'm liking them but they're pretty harsh. Some say that the Pirelli's are a bit grim in the wet, but I'm
not qualified to comment.

Don't forget that if you're covered by Porsche warranty you'll need N rated tyres. If not, I wouldn't worry about N rating.

Pirelli P Zero fantastic dry/warm grip, iffy cold/wet grip also quite noisy.

Oh!.... when are the Pilot Supersports out with N rating
