Hi all,

Need to replace my tired number plates for the '87 944.
I want the original look and I have found somewhere that will produce some pre 2001 font plates. I even have the option to put on dealership details around the outside. Only problem is the plates on now are completely plain, so I don't know what the original dealership plates would have looked like.
The car was originally purchased at Swindon Porsche. I would really appreciate if someone with original plates could let me know what the porsche dealership details looked like back in the day. I know some don't like showing plates so i'm only interested in the zoomed in small detail of the dealership etc.
I'm not a crazy perfectionist - honest!!

Rich

I got mine from Dealer Plates here

They say they have a database of dealer details - worth a try. I sent them an image from the rear window sticker on the car and they reproduced it perfectly, they even fooled the concours judge at a PCGB event.....

Cheers Dave, Yes that's who I'm in contact with too, good to find someone that's used them and sounds like they do good work.
Good point about window stickers, I will have a look, I'll check the manual as well.
After getting rid of the rust and having part respray I'm suddenly getting picky over the smallest details!

I used Dealer Plates too and the results were fine. Even managed a slight modification to the origianl look without any problems.
Arrived promptly and were a reasonable price.

Would have been Dick Lovett Porsche back then and assume it would have been a Swindon showroom versus their earlier Marlborough showroom. http://www.dicklovett.co.uk/Dick-Lovett ... story.html but the did move in the mid Eighties

There are still Porsche from this era in Peter Lovetts collection so speak to them directly as they may be able to loan/supply the right plates for you to copy.

It will probably look like this logo

No problem. I also used dealerplates.co.uk as well for my plates last year. Real happy with them

Just curious - how did you get on?

My car came from Dick Lovett in Marlborough and I have a "Dick Lovett" front plate but need a rear one to replace my plain rear one.

I called Swindon, they told me the old plate would have had the Dick Lovett logo, all their plates now just say "Porsche Centre" and they cant do any special plates. They wouldn't be able to do the larger pre 2001 font anyway.

The only way we can get pre 2001 font is from dealerplates.com (I guess you would want your front and back to match). Been told that dealerplates.com just need a photo of the old plate and can exactly match the font and dealer details around the border. If you could post or PM me a photo of the border details around your numberplate would be very grateful!! :D

Mine just says " Dick Lovett Specialist Cars" and the phone number.

Will get a photo sorted over the next few days and send over for you to have a look at.

Dick Lovett Porsche (Swindon and Bristol) and Dick Lovett Specialist Cars (Cheltenham and I think Swindon) were two different businesses and showrooms. Logo would be the same though

Thanks Jeff,

That's a great help. I believe Swindon may have had a logo on and maybe 'Dick Lovett Porsche' instead of 'Specailist cars', I have the old tel. no. from my documents '0793 615000'.

Have you ordered your plate yet?
