Thanks for that. So basically the spring legs have to cross over each other so the spring is in tension and then the lug on the cam sits between the legs and pushes them apart?

yes that's it the key slot should sit horizontal the spring should bring the key back to this position when operated in either direction.....

Guess how many times I put mine back together to find that piece of information

Drivers and passenger handles are different. The basic castings are the same but there are handed levers attached to the back.

Guess how I know!

Couldn't work out why it wouldn't go back together!

Thanks for the spring advice, It all went back together perfectly. Now, the next problem, I want to swap the lock cylinder in the passenger door as I have never had a key for this door. The problem is because I dont have the key I cant release the cylinder from the handle! Does anyone have any ideas how to get the cylinder out? I can only think of drilling it but can imagine this might end in disaster! (or lots of worn drill bits on hardened steel!)

Hi
I do not have a handle with me as I am in Northern China and it's -26 outside

however the cylinder sits in a casting which is attached to the handle casting by a split pin....knock this out with a small punch or drill bit ...then hopefully you have the one from your broken handle that you can use to re-fit :D
