Has anybody used these? http://www.porsche9xxshop.eu/ They seem to have quite a bit of stuff available.

While I am on I would advise anybody against using this idiot http://stores.ebay.co.uk/supercarparts I am a reasonable person, but my experience of him was terrible. He is overpriced, provides a useless service, is a liar, and the only way I got my refund from him for goods he had failed to dispatch days after he said he would was by reporting him to trading standards. He usually breaks Japanese sports cars, but has recently started breaking 944s.

I haven't used them.

When I order parts 9 times out of 10 I use Design 911, I always compare prices with Porscheshop too but Design 911 is normally cheaper for the same parts.

I've had a few second hand bits from ebay and Porschapart too.

Don't get me going...... everybody is cheaper than PorscheShop - even your OPC.

You should consider widening your searches, starting off with the OPC as your first port of call, and after they give you the price then ask for discount. That applies to everybody actually.

As it happens I have found design 911's prices to be near the top end of the scale.

Being in the North West have you tried James at Only9 in Weaverham (http://www.only9.co.uk/) or Porschapart in Ramsbottom? Only9 will be cheaper but James is only a one man business so he's limited on space and hence may not have all you need. You might be lucky and he could be breaking a turbo or S2 when you ring. Porschapart are more expensive but they will have everything and there knowledge and service are excellent.

JM garage will beat anybody by 10% on the parts they can supply. Which is nearly everything. GSF & euro carparts can be useful. Also Bert gear. Porscheapart are the best dismantlers I've found & not as expensive as you might think. When I've bought a few parts at once they have just given me some without charge.

It's certainly an experience tracing decently priced parts, and finding people who offer a decent service.

First I must thank Ant Shearer (Bertelli) for being so generous in finding me an oil cooler and an indicator lens, which was slightly cracked but better than mine with a big hole in it so will do for now until the good one turns up, for a better than reasonable price. Both items are here.

Then I must thank Terry (t3rra) for also being generous with the offer of a replacement wing 'for the postage' - which I might take him up on yet. I've seen the pictures but have just been too busy to study them and respond yet Terry.

And thanks to many others for the suggestions of where to look for parts.

That's the club members thanked, now onto the professionals...

Porsche-Apart - I drove up there yesterday and met a guy called Warren. He's a nice guy and it's an interesting place, but I was very disappointed to be refused TIPEC discount because - "everything's discounted right down already". The all singing-dancing personal-plated blue Audi TT sat outside, the fancy red personal-plated VW transporter van with Porsche wheels on it sat outside, and the exact replica Porsche OPC reception room would indicate otherwise. I hadn't said I was a member of TIPEC when I asked for parts prices, so the quotes were for Joe Public. I will use them again, but I am very disappointed. I paid for a good off-side indicator lens, a near-side fog-light lens, a rear bumper tow eye cover, and a fog light end trim - £77 for the whole lot. He gave me everything to bring home with me except for the fog-light. Unfortunately the indicator lens was a near-side one, so Bertelli's is on the car now. The replacement indicator lens and the fog-light haven't turned up yet.

Douglas Valley Breakers - Against my better judgement I drove up there today because they have a Cobalt Blue bonnet. An ex-TIPEC RO called Graham showed me around, very knowledgeable, and again a nice guy, but his 80's pop-star boss (Steve Strange) wanted £75 + VAT (£90 total) for the bonnet. "They should be £100 (+VAT) but if I said that you'd be ringing around to get it cheaper". I told him that I don't need to ring around, I know that they are available from as little as £50 inc VAT (£25 actually at a place in Manchester - but I've forgotten the name) and that the only reason the Cobalt Blue one was of interest was because of the colour to save me driving around with a different coloured bonnet until the car is re-sprayed. I offered them £75 including the VAT but Graham said "it just isn't happening mate". Fair enough, I walked away and will never darken their doorstep again. It's just greed. They must have over thirty bonnets there - all worthless bits of metal if nobody buys them. They didn't give a toss, didn't even want to barter - again not even offering a TIPEC discount, which if they had have done I would have bought. W*nkers - never ever again. I knew before I went, I just don't understand why I went! By the way, Porsche-Apart also wanted £100 + VAT for a bonnet.

Porkaparts - what's the use in them having a 'contact us' enquiry e-mail address if it goes into their spam box? By the time their response came I had almost everything sourced. Enough said.

Faze1 Motorsport (Ebay) - I bought the wheel arch linings from them and paid instantly on Thursday. I had to e-mail them on Friday afternoon to ask them to confirm they had received payment. They posted them out Monday and they arrived Tuesday.

Tomorrow I might bob along to see James at Only9. He's only five miles from here and I've had stuff off him in the past. Hopefully there will be a reasonably priced bonnet there.

Tri-Man, I'm glad you're making progress with the repair parts. I was at my local OPC picking up two hinge pins & two half hinges.

I have to be honest, at £79.44 for these silly parts I think your £90 for a bonnet seems like a bargain! I'd have thought it would have cost you more in time/petrol/general messing around etc.. to continue to trawl around to save £20-£30 (or less) that the matching colour bonnet would have been worth the expense? Just a thought. Good luck.

Yes, I nearly have all the parts now. The car will be having a 'windows out' re-spray soon, so the colour of the bonnet doesn't really matter. It's not the money, it's the principle really, it's difficult to justify paying £90 or so for anything when you can get it for £50 elsewhere. However I would have paid £80 if he'd have bartered - just because the underside of the bonnet is the right colour, however I guess they don't need the business. I'm just small fry really... there was a Ferrari body-shell bagged up and palleted for shipping out - so somebody must have spent a lot of money with them.

As for the running around - it took thirty minutes to get to DVB... motorway for all of the way bar five miles - so I'd better not say how far it was

The journey to Porsche-Apart was forty minutes, again motorway all the way except for about three miles - so with no traffic and a steady 69 mph it was an easy trip

Wow, can't believe how quickly you're getting on with this, never heard a good word anywhere about DVB, in fact they have a G50 5-speed gearbox for an '89 930 and are asking £7k !!!!!

I have to get on with it because I know from past experience that I am the sort of person who is just distracted from my work until I have any problem sorted out - therefore I just take a few days off and sort it out which in turn means minimum disruption to me. Now I have nearly all the bits and the car was MOT'd this morning. This weekend it will be stripped down at the front so that I can rebuild it 'straight'.

Didn't see a Lamborghini at Porsche-Apart, but an Audi's close enough.... same company isn't it?

Porsche-Apart had racks and racks of everything you could want and I would definitely go back there. It's worth a club drive out one day - you never know what might take your fancy.... maybe Mrs Butterworth  I'm not whinging about their prices, I saved a fortune on OPC prices, and at the end of the day everything I have bought has been glass or plastic - at the very worst they just need washing to make them as good as new. I'm mainly disappointed that they didn't give TIPEC discount - even OPC give TIPEC discount, and it was the first time I'd been refused anywhere.

As for DVB - I just knew before I got in my car to leave here that I was making a mistake... but I still went. It's a bit like when you were young and really drunk and the minger just gets better and better looking.... and you know you shouldn't.... but....

Come on, we've all been there - I can hear you all laughing and not wanting to own up

Credit where credit is due -

Porsche-Apart have sent my fog-light and indicator lens, they turned up today. Great news, the fog-light is brand new - which is much better as mine were new four years ago. £188 from OPC, £60 from Porsche-Apart..... although I think I've just got lucky there as I did see the one on the car they were going to take off - maybe they had problems with it.

One happy customer :D

They do that sort of thing. Once a part is promised they supply it. I got a new wiper linkage for free. Sometimes if the part they dismantle is substandard you win! :)
