Removed my glass today from my 968 style mirrors and found they were guled in place rather then clipped, also one off the plastic motor gears has the ball missing. Seems someone at the spary shop was heavy handed or couldn't work out how 2 fitt them
Correclty.

Can I pursche the platic bit or do they come with the motor? Dose anyone have any spear/4 sale?

Come with the motor, try getting a good used one, they are the same motor on the later flag type. Very common they snap, as you say, someone didnt know how the work!

Any one no if the motors are the same as on volvo 700/900?

I think iv got one plastic bit broke on each side. Would it be possible 2 fix both side by splitting one motor?

Thanks

I have heard the motor is generic so the Volvo one may work, the little ball joints are both the same

Any tips on fitting 968 wing mirror glass, iv worked out how it's ment 2 work. There 4 holes with 4 plastic plugs. As one off the motors is missing the ball the 4 plastic plugs don't seem 2 clipping and holed the glass while the lock ring is rotated. Iv tryed gluing ( super glue as this seemed 2 be the thiness glue that didnt affect the plug or jam up rotatting the lock ring. This took a few attempt and was working till yesterday A friend shut the door and the glass fell out.

As my mirrors the club auto sport fibre glass ones, they don't swivel, and I can see now how this effects rotating the lock ring. As ur so up tight against the door, 4 movement.

Iv tryed 4 hour 2 day with no luck, having cleaned the super gule off After each attemp. I'm thinking off just fixing it with some sort off stronger glue. Or is the problem due 2 the missing ball joint on the motor?

It seems the spray shop had a similar troble and resulted 2 using a gule gun, from what I can see. This has worked well 4 a few months

Came up with an idea, would using a soldering iron 2 slightly melt the 4 plastic studs on the mirror work better then gule? Plastic set and bond together? At least this way it will butt up tight. And there be no gule obstructing the locking ring from rotating?

Hi t3rra,

The mirror glasses are a little tricky to get in and out. The key to doing it is time and a lot of patience.

There's a little wheel that you have to 1/8th turn to get the glass in and out. It's usually trial and error as you're trying to turn the wheel with a screw driver tip through the access hole.

Electric motors regularly come up on eBay new for around £35. I don't know how much new ones are from OPC. Might be worth giving them a ring - they often come up trumps.

Hope this helps.

Thanks ben, the wheel your talking about is what im calling the lock ring, my problem is the 4 studs on the back off the mirror that are locked in place by the rotation off the wheel/lock ring. Took me About 20 mins d first time. I'm sure it be a lot easyer if I could swing the mirror away from the door, but there fixed and this causing trouble rotatin the lock ring with a short flat tip, from the hole in the bottom off the mirror housing.

Is my problem made worse with the failed join on the motor, casuing the glass 2 flop about while I try 2 lock the ring ??

Hmmm, doubtful. I would have thought it would have only affected the mirror positioning when trying to move it via the motor. When I stripped mine down for painting, I accidently popped the motor apart. I managed to snap it all back together ok though and it worked fine.

You shouldn't need to turn the mirror back on it's self. You should be able to do it as it is. You just gotta have the patience of a saint. Altenatively, can you remove the mirror to work on it? The mirror glasses are around £50 each so you don't want it dropping out at speed. :(

Ben

Yeah, I know! I brought new glass both sides. My problem seems 2 be the getting the 4 lugs in the 4 coner holes, I can see from above the top 2 are in but when keeping presuser on the glass/ pushing the lugs in 2 the holes, when I try and rotated the lock ring around 2 cover the 4 plastic lugs/studs in the holes. Maybe if the length off the studs were longer it would help? As they seem 2 come out from the holes quite easily.

Iv just checked the stud/lug length and they seem 2 be same size as my old flag glass . I just can't belive they would off been made this way requiring attemp after attemp. Thought I was having diffluclty due 2 some thing else. R will try and try again sat. I think if I could extend the stud/lug hight/length would help the glass stay in by it self, but then the lock ring wouldn't rotate/fit over them.
