Having only had my 944 S2 a few days, I have a few (probably dumb) questions to ask:

1. How do you actually lift out the sunroof :? . The manual says to lift it after flipping the hinges, but it still seems to be connected to the pinions at the rear...

2. Is it normal to have the bottom of the windscreen exposed? I can see into the engine bay from the A-pillars, and was just wondering whether I was missing any trim pieces. There is a black plastic shroud across most of the width, but the edges are very exposed to my mind.

3. Is there any way to adjust the handbrake? Mine will hold the car OK, but seems to need a few more notches than is suggested in buyers guides.

4. Any hints on how to change the spark plugs? It looks like you might have to remove the cam cover to do this (although I want to do that anyway to give it spruce up)? Presumably this is just a case of removing the hex-headed nuts?

5. Is there a guide anywhere on how to strip down the doors? I have a sticky electric window that probably just needs the runners to be cleaned and lubed, but stripping doors are always easiest if you know where all the clips and screws are, in my experience

I'm sure that there will be more to ask in due course, but that should keep me going for now :D !

Phil

you'll find a great deal of how to's at www.clarks-garage.com

To get the sunroof out you need to put the ignition on ACC then push the sunroof button so that the two latches retract from the sunroof - then you can pop it out.

The wind screen is like that! Quite strange really, would off made sense if the wiper arms were lower, hinden out off the way. Air dynamics.

U can only lift the roof up a bit at the back with the engine runing!

2 remove the lifting arms need 2 retacted. Once they have, then un clip the front and manual remove and place in the cargo area in the rear.

Call me if u get stuct 07525374895
Terry

As 4 the door card just romove all the screws there one behind the inside door handle and some under the arm rest.

Do a search here gets asked lots. deLux has given the basics.

2. Is it normal to have the bottom of the windscreen exposed? I can see into the engine bay from the A-pillars, and was just wondering whether I was missing any trim pieces. There is a black plastic shroud across most of the width, but the edges are very exposed to my mind.
Correct

Needs adjusting at the rear wheels first Clarkes or Pelican the best way.
4. Any hints on how to change the spark plugs? It looks like you might have to remove the cam cover to do this (although I want to do that anyway to give it spruce up)? Presumably this is just a case of removing the hex-headed nuts?
Nope pull plug leads off & use longish plug spanner.

5. Is there a guide anywhere on how to strip down the doors? I have a sticky electric window that probably just needs the runners to be cleaned and lubed, but stripping doors are always easiest if you know where all the clips and screws are, in my experience
Very few clips, mainly screws of varying lengths. Google a manual at Rick Cannell or Promax & download it.

I'm sure that there will be more to ask in due course, but that should keep me going for now :D !

The plugs, 1st pull out the ignition lead boots. Be carefull iv removed mine 4/5 times then Thursday night 2 off them broke away! Same with the cam cover, get a new good quitey 5 mm key. If you round them out there 25 pounds a bolt! Also watch they dont snap. Don't no if a thoque wrench would be use full? Tell if they need more force then they can safety take. I had one snap when removing it and one when putting it back on. Neather bolt felt stiffer then the rest.

Also ur airfilter is under the badge pannel.

Thanks for all the answers :) . I'm still a trifle confused about the sunroof, but will have another try in light of these comments ;) .

I have now found Clarks Garage website, which looks like a useful reference tool, and also the Cannell manuals :) . Looks like I'll be busy next weekend...

Ignition switch to first click.
Press the raise button and watch the rear hinges lower out of the roof.
Unclip the two clips at the front of the roof.
Lift it up and remove it.

Install is the reverse.

I would get someone to give you a hand with the roof as it is no lightweight and can be difficult especially when re-fitting chances of clouting the car roof and doing some damage.
You can get some handbrake adjustment by tightening up the cables at the handbrake lever (2 x 10mm nuts IIRC) Can be awkward with the seats in but do-able.
Handbrakes have never been brilliant hold better down a slope rather than uphill, i tend to leave mine in gear also.
Enjoy, they are great cars.

If you still have the original toolkit that came with the car (probably in with the spare wheel), then there should be a tool for the spark plugs. I think this also works for the sunroof as well if you ever need to manually open/close it.
