Hi there

I've just joined the Porsche owning fraternity with the purchase of a 944 S2 that I have big plans for . It's a 1990 model with 182k on the clock, but seems to have been well maintained with a good service record and bills for all the right things as far as I can tell...

I'm planning on a bit of modifying and track use next year, but plan to enjoy the car in standard trim for a few months first, whilst I work out what needs doing to get it fully up to track standard . I certainly think that lightening plus suspension and brake upgrades will be on the cards, and possibly some power tweaks as well, but any suggestions on this would be gratefully appreciated, as I'm new to Porsche and 944s .

Anyway, here are a few photos of my new toy (oh, and yes, the wheels will be changing before too long !!)

can't help you with the mods personally but there's a heap of experienced folks on here that will be able to and will answer your post shortly, but welcome aboard from me anyway.

Welcome aboard, the skies the limit with improving your car, the first thing to do is check cam/ balance belts, 4 years and/or 48k max life, then the cam chain and tensioner and then plugs, dissy cap, rotor arm and possibly plug leads, this will get most of the 211 stuttgart horses back in the stable for starters

Great looking car. Mileage no problem it's the maintenance that counts. You should have a load of fun in that!
As to upgrades get used to it first. See if it needs anything big maintenance wise. Brakes are good so if yours aren't then it needs looking at. If you want to know were you are regarding power put it on the dyno' first. Then you know if you got all the power you should have. Suspension will be the area of greatest gain for money spent. Unless your car has had new shocks it would benefit from some. Lots of options here. Re bushing & geometry should be high on the list. A set of sticky tyres can make a big difference.

Lots of tricks you can do but as everyone says get it up to scratch first. After that a suspension refurb & geo set up would be my first thought.

Red is faster 2 wash, that's about it! very clean looking. I don't think there's a lot 2 gain powerwise, over the stock figures, expesally with that mileage on the engine. See some dyno results 4 a similar mileage s2 and it was 170 bhp, which isn't far off a new 8v n/a.

Like myself, I'm wish I got a turbo 2 start with. But iv invested far 2 much already now.

Like they sirguested, keeping ur speed will be better then getting 2 speed.

Thanks for the welcome . You seem like a friendly bunch and it's nice to see the 'fastest colour' issue is alive and well, as that has always been a point of contention on every forum I have ever used !! I always used to think blue was fastest , but now I'm convinced it's black...

I am pleased to say that the belts and cam chain/tensioner were done not too long ago, with the receipts to prove it from a reputable specialist, so that's one less thing to worry about. The HT side of the ignition will certainly be next, just to make sure that I've got the best possible spark, and then it will be on to brakes and suspension I think (it has had a recent geo set up on the standard springs and shocks, so that will do for now). I'll also have to think about some lightening behind the seats, and probably some race seats and harnesses in time.

Interesting to hear several suggestions to just enjoy the car in standard trim for a while, as that had been my conclusion as well, especially given the time of year coming up. Some cleaning and a nice set of Design 90s won't go amiss over the next few weeks, mind. I know that it looks clean on the photos, but believe me it needs some TLC over this weekend. My record car cleaning session was 6 hours, but I get the feeling that I might exceed that this weekend !!

Looking forward to getting to know a few people on here better, and working out who are the ones who know what they are talking about

Were are you based?

I just changed my leads, as mine just fell apart when trying 2 change the plugs. but I'm guessing there over 20 years old. Beru from Gsf £110 ish. But I was in a rush. There's some mangecor ones 4 £70 that are ment 2 be upgrade part. With ten year warranty.

U got ur sun roof out yet?

I don't no what ur finacsil situation us but I would use the car 4 a while, b4 you start spending out on upgrades. It's sirprizing how a few small parts can add up on these.
