Derek looked quite the driver's mate up in that cab!
Should be a cheap fix Derek and I'm kicking myself I didn't look under car to spot that disintegrated perch. Lindsay's sharp eyes again!
In my defence m'lud I've never heard of one of these perches cracking right through like that. Must have been a helluva pothole?
The new perch will cost about a tenner, and it shouldn't take more than an hour to fit (remove strut, remove shock nut, lift off spring with remains of old perch, drop new perch on, recompress spring, reassemble strut).
Lindsay had excellent idea of checking perch on other side for corrosion but would be double the time to change that as well. Also you may have just been unlucky hitting such a deep pothole and the perch may not have been abnormally corroded. They are quite thick and usually just have surface rust where they contact spring coil.
Oh God! 37 members have seen this photo of the old girl's ignominious departure from Silverstone. I'm now waiting for Mark at
Porscheshop to get her up and running again in time for the next Red Lion meeting. Thanks to everyone who gave me their shoulders to cry on!!
Big hugs all round, Derek
