Re: Fibreglass front wings
Finish off these wings can very concidably, it will all be down 2 the skill and attention of the body shop by the sounds off things. I had mine repired at the bottom, were the lower mounting point had rotted away. In the past someone had repired with filler and fibre glass. Looked fine 2 me. But my body shop cut it all out back 2 metal and re plated it back up. Looks like they done a proper job this time. Pop rock I'm sure your chossen wisely and there look spot on when finished. Very BMW z4.
When I looked at the same sirplures 968 rear spoiler they looked much better them any iv seen for sale in this country. So unless the web pics are selcted from there best bacth. I'm sure the work required. Will be withing the skilled and capable hands off the body shop.
Poprock your door handles are you keeping black or polishing up?

Re: Fibreglass front wings
Definitely keeping them black.
Polished ones look good on a Golf, but I don’t like them on a 944.
I had nice scripted handles on my last Lux, and didn’t around to swapping them onto the Turbo before selling it … always regretted that, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for a cheap set ever since.
I just need to figure out how to swap the lock tumblers over, now.

Tony, one of my members wrote an article for AT on this exact subject, eons ago, probably 2006 or so? Ping me an E Mail & I'll see if he has the original copy if you cannot find one.poprock wrote:Definitely keeping them black.

Its all sounding very good Tony, I can't wait for the finished results and hope they are good as I plan to go down the very same route (only fitting and spraying them myself)

Re: Fibreglass front wings
I’d better make the most of my car’s uniqueness then, if it’s only going to be unique for a few months!
The bodyshop have been kind enough to take photos as they progress, so hopefully I’ll have some interesting shots to share through All Torque.
Thanks very much for the old door lock article Jim. I’m certain that’s going to come in handy.

Re: Fibreglass front wings
Latest update: My wings are perfected and they’re heading to the paint shop on Monday. Should get the car back late next week.

Re: Fibreglass front wings
So I was supposed to get my car back today …
But instead I got a phone call saying that their painter has been finding flaws in his own primer and decided to strip the wings back down and start again. Not quite back to square one, but a step back nonetheless.
That’s my run with PCGB on Sunday cancelled, at any rate.

The best things come to those who wait. I know how you feel though, I get all anxious when the '44's away for repairs. (Like an expectant father and I've been there twice already!) My wife complains I'm well grumpy!
It'll all be worth it in the end. I think it goes to show what a good job the body shop are doing. It's better to have the delay then getting the car back with a questionable finish.

Re: Fibreglass front wings
I HAVE MY CAR BACK!
I am very, very happy.
The guys at Eastern Western went above and beyond the call of duty on this job. Yes, I waited four and a half weeks instead of the two they quoted, but they stuck to their original price. Their fibreglass specialist primed, dried and then sanded the wings back down eight times before he was satisfied with the finish. He wasn’t satisfied with the initial fit, so cut the internal support struts on the wings, curved them slightly more and reshaped the struts.
Really, beyond the call of duty. Great job.
Please excuse the rough cameraphone pictures:

So that’s vented fibreglass front wings, a fibreglass undertray and front spoiler, and a general tidy up of paintwork around the car (including removal of the rear rubber bumper strip to reshape the surrounding metal before fitting it back on).
