My car was fitted with a modern car radio when i bought it. It was a silver Kenwood unit that did'nt fit in well with the dash at all. I sold it and bought an Alpine head unit which is a single CD unit.

My friend recently scrapped his Vectra and out if it i rescued a Sony tape headunit with 6 cd changer.

I'm keen to keep with the cars hertiage and age and keep a tape player and the CD changer will give me a modern twist.

Do i swap the Alpine out for the Sony? If so, where is the best place to put the CD changer unit?

I'm thinking to do this with the Blaupunkt radio cassette I have.

I would put the changer in the rear off-side boot well.

Tri-man. Dare i say it - self tappers? Makes me cringe at the thought......

I don't want to drill into the car at all if it can be helped......

Use self adhesive two piece velcro tape thats how I fixed my alarm unit under the seat of my motorcycle, grips like mad and no need to drill any holes.

Hi Rav

Mine is in the glovebox which is perfect, it's a 6 disc Pioneer though, don't think the chunky Sony 10 disc unit will fit. You will get change out of £100 for a Pioneer one with a compatible head unit on e-bay, there are stacks of them.

After that the empty boot recess is best as it keeps it hidden, careful how you mount it though! As a third option i would say bolt it to the rear of your back seat. Safe enough to do but you'll need to keep your blind down all the time or your asking for your hatch to be caved in!

Hope this helps

Stuart

Mine was upgraded in the early 90's with a pioneer tape deck which looks pretty inkeeping, but i use a tape which has an audio in lead on it, which goes to a media tablet that hides in the old casset rack, works great and looks very retro :-)

Under the passenger seat is a place we used to use when I did it for a living.
My head unit is a H & B 5555 with MP3 disc & SD/MMC & USB memory sticks, so far more modern thatn these multidisc efforts

I just put up with the modern look of a Kenwood head unit, with an Ipod interface behind the center console and an Ipod in the glove box, thousands of songs easily sorted and selected rather than sifting through CDs but each to their own. I did the retro look thing in my 924S but decided to modernise with the 944 and put up with it for the sake of convenient music.

If i modernize my head unit - i will have to modernize my music collection.

I couldn't live without Pink Floyd, Spandau Ballet, Ah-ha and Duran Duran......

Cue the flamming.

Completely agree. 80's music sounds so much better in a 80's car. I have what i think is the original unit and would be a shame to de retro it. However do use the ipod through the radio through some device that tunes in through the airwaves.

So, best 80's song for the 944? Personally, The Human League and ABC move it for me.

Matt

I'm still stuck with a cassette radio (although not the original) and it's great to change the tapes every few weeks. Amazing what I spent my money on in the 80's
