Need an adjustable cam pulley for my up coming head overhaul. (2.5 8v) Can only find two. Lindsey racing do one for £££'s & a bit cheaper from pro nine. Which is all alloy. Anyone know of any others? Or have one of these fitted. My new head isn't new at all & has had a fair bit skimmed off it. This will effect the cam timing by a few degrees which I would like to correct.

Failing that can an s/s2 cam pulley be made to fit?

Thought about asking Kent Cams, Piper Cams, Catcams etc if they would make you one. Also at the Autosport show there was a couple of smaller companies saying they could make just about any pulley or specialist engine parts. I didn't take any details but I remember one guy saying they advertised and sold pulleys on ebay. I can't make any recommendations though.

JJ there should be a certain amount of adjustment on the standard gear whether its enough?

Nothing on ebay but the going rate for other engines is around £100! Only way to adjust the stock one would be an offset key. £200 seems a bit rich just because it's a Porsche.

Give EMC Motorsport a call in Birmingham and say Chas sent you. They may have something knocking about and may even give you some guidance on what/where to look for the pulley you require. Like Rich said, I thought the stock pulley had some adjustment in it as standard but then I am comparing it to the S2 item...).

The stock pulley has a key way bigger than the key giving a little adjustment. The plate behind it is tight against the key.

TBH I'd get an engineering shop to cut a couple more keyways in it offset slightly. That's what I've done in past when setting up cams that don't have verniers available.

I have a spare pulley so thats an option. But won't it make the pulley a bit loose?? Also knowing my luck none of the keys would be in the right place. I suppose that the low production run would be the reason for the expensive pulley. There are a lot more Pintos out there!

NOOOOOOO!!! Not making one keyway bigger, you cut 3 or 4 around the bore & index them so they advance/retard the pulley by a couple of degrees each way. Generally advancing cams increases the top end & knackers the bottom end & vice versa. Also be careful as at 944 CR the valves will close to the pistons & you don't want 'em kissing each other

The cam pulley is not tight on the key, its slot is wider.

A couple of specialists do go by J.J's logic (EMC and JMG to name two). Both have said that incorrect timing (from engine work and generally not checking it (it's 20 years since these cars were built) can cost as much as 10-15BHP. It details on how to time the engine up in the Workshop manual or at least it does for the 16v models.

Ordered the Deutsch Nine one in the end. Will see what difference it makes. Hope I don't have to wait too long for it as I really need to get the car together now. Now what do I tell Mrs JJ.
