I have attended shows in Scotland that have turned into quagmires and been torrential rain alll day long.
Every one has been a great turnout and every person had a good time.

Last year Scotland region organised weekends at Gaydon and Malton.
Huge distances for them yet they fielded in excess of 25 cars at both...
They are the best organised and enthusiastic group in the Club.

I can see this turning into another us and them if we are not careful!!

I did not get chance to go to either Newby Hall or Harewood last year as I was travelling with work however I have been previously and both are great events with more to do and see for the family at Harewood.

No the Scottish region has always supported the Club.
In 2000 when we restarted attending the NEC show their then RO (Gary) drove down to the NE to take a car down to the NEC and help man the NEC stand for us (that year all the cars were NE region ones). I have always recipricated and supported the Scottish group since 96 and attended dozens of shows and weekends with them.

Stephen, it's not us that's complaining that these shows are too far for the Scottish region to travel to, it's someone else.......

If I can speak on behalf of the region for a minute, however arrogant of me that might be …

None of us up in Scotland expect those south of the border to go out of their way just to make things suit us. We live up here by choice and know fine well that it’s just not practical to base events this far north.

We also know from experience that we’re always very welcome at any and all TIPEC events wherever they are in the UK, if we ever do fancy taking a long drive to join in … and a lot of us often do, because long drives are bloody good fun in a Porsche.

A joint Gruppe North event has to be placed with consideration for the spread of club members … and when there’s a good number of club regions south of the border and only the one region to the north, then it ain’t rocket science to work out where an event would be best placed.

So … back to the planning. Pick a pre-existing event and ask the organisers if they’d like to welcome a large group of Northern Porsches. Dead simple. Then do the same down south. The Midlands can relax, they have the national event and the NEC Classic to worry about, which is more than enough responsibility to be taking on!

Very well put and thanks for that Tony. The Scottish region do a great job up with all there members and welcome everyone. Myself & my wife went this year to there meeting that they have in Bo'Ness which is 560 miles round trip form us in LEEDS . So when the Scottish region goes to the National day they travel around 800 miles or more and come in a big group.
So back to the subject of the Northern show. Quite a few members have asked me about having a region show up North. So at the committee meeting at the NEC in November I asked if I could have a show for us. The answer from the committee was yes. We would have to piggyback a show due to the costs. I am the Northern Director of the club, so I will be picking a place for us to meet.
I am there for looking for a show that most regions in the North can attend without traveling to far. If the Scottish region comes down for the day or weekend to support it, then that's fine by me. Everyone is welcome from any region.
If the Southern region fancy a meeting down there than ask Derek or Eric but they already have quite a few big shows down there.
The way things are looking Newby hall or Harewood house look good for regions to travel, unless I am wrong.
Please let me know what you think.
Have a good Christmas & see you in the New Year.

Regards
John Oakes

Yes,well said Poprock,me and the missus regularly go up to Scotland(my family are from there) and we can do Glasgow in 3 1/2 -4 hours in a Porsche.By comparison it took us over 5 hours to get to Poole quay! I think a show somewhere around the Yorkshire area should be acceptable to more people than not. However, when people are travelling long distances to take part in a show we need to ensure that there are adequate facilities for them!I really hope this Northern show happens and it would be nice to see a corresponding southern show too! :)

John, you must have been writing your last post as I did mine, anyway,I think Harewood has to be the best possible venue. In September there was so much room for expansion of the show, there could have been much more room for our Porsches ,similarly the TVRs and all the other clubs involved. It would be worth getting in touch with the organisers and discussing a bigger Porsche attendance. The facilities are already there ,the attractions other than cars are there and with advance booking we got in for £7 per car this year as opposed to the normal charge which I think is about £10.95 per person. One thing about the September Harewood show, there were very few trade stands.Maybe we could get a couple of local independants interested and maybe some accessory and parts specialists too! Only a few people have responded to this thread.I wonder how much interest there is from the various Northern regions.Come on guys, are you up for it? :)

Its its going to be Harewood, how about the Fathers Day show?

I have a downer with Harewood in that its a pain to get in and out on a busy day and if you offer to accept Gift Aid they charge you extra, so they make more money out of you.

Here are some photos from POP http://www.zroadster.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=21392

Hi,

Chris Crossley that organises CITP is just managing to get a few people interested in trade stands. At Newby, there was 1 stand selling decals and number plates. Later in the year at Harewood, I reckon there were around 10 trade stands catering for all marques of car. The avalanche (pardon the pun at the moment) that is CITP is gathering in size and momentum as I've mentioned in the articles I've written about the shows. Sadly, the CITP Harewood article didn't make it into the latest edition of All Torque. I know that this is due to the magazine only being produced every 2 months and space constraints.

On another note, I'm not bothered where the Northern show is. Near or far, the main thing that I enjoy is that I'm out in the car enjoying driving it. It's also good to get out and have a good chin wag with like minded enthusiasts. 'Nuh said.

Nothing at this time. I am still looking for a suitable show. Hoping to have something sorted for next month. I will post it on the Forum and All Torque magazine.
